Česká Street is a very lively and busy street in Brno. The street was named Česká (Czech) because it was the centre for Czech cultural life in Brno in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with Joža Barvič’s bookshop being an important hub. Today, the street is dominated by shops of MORAVIAN SQUARE (MORAVSKÉ NÁMĚSTÍ) Moravian Square (Moravské náměstí) This square, sometimes called Moravák, encompasses both the area in front of Jan Křtitel Erna’s Baroque Kostel sv. Tomáše ( Church of St Thomas) and a park awaiting renovations. These two parts are divided by a busy road with tram rails.
