Ernest Shaw began his career as a psychiatrist. After a decade, he became dissatisfied with his practice and began to pursue his interest in art making as a vehicle for self expression. Drawing upon his childhood fascination with crafting small, sculptural objects from found materials, in 1974, Shaw challenged himself to a forge a careerin art.

It has been collecting key examples of sculptural works and installations by American and international artists in wood, bronze, stone, stone, steel, paper, and assemblage since the museum’s inception in 1992. VOLUNTEER - GROUNDS FOR SCULPTURE Education Volunteers assist at workshops for adults, families, and children by helping the instructor with the distribution of supplies, providing activity support and clean-up assistance.. After studying at Zadkine’s school in Paris, Sugarman returned to New York in 1955 and helped to found the New Sculpture Group, an organization promoting abstract art. He also taught at Hunter College and Yale University in the 1960’s. Sugarman died in 1999 at the ageof 87.

GUIDELINES - GROUNDS FOR SCULPTURE Masks are required in ALL buildings. Always maintain a safe distance of 6′ or more from others, even while outdoors. Avoid touching surfaces and objects including signage, and sculptures. Use every day preventative measures (wash hands for 20 seconds or use sanitizer,cover coughs, etc.)
SUSTAINABILITY
Future initiatives include implementation of a 600-kW solar installation across the 75,000 square foot roof of the SJCA, anticipated to reduce electricity costs by approximately 90%. Additionally, GFS has partnered with GREENCROWN Energy Advisors and Direct Energy to ensure that 100% of the power consumed by Grounds For Sculpture and The SewardPETER WOYTUK

Ernest Shaw began his career as a psychiatrist. After a decade, he became dissatisfied with his practice and began to pursue his interest in art making as a vehicle for self expression. Drawing upon his childhood fascination with crafting small, sculptural objects from found materials, in 1974, Shaw challenged himself to a forge a careerin art.

One of her highly regarded and significant public works is the ‘Mankind Monument’ built in Resistencia, Argentina, in 1994. Aranovich has been the recipient of many awards and grants including a Pollock-Krasner Foundatiom grant in 1994, and Fundación Antorchas grants in 1995 and 1999/2000.
