Tremayne Quay was built by Sir Richard Vyvyan in 1847, anticipating a visit from Queen Victoria. The planned visit never happened but the quay is now a Grade II listed structure, a short walk from the road through a wooded creekside on the Helford River. ‘Passage for Par‘ was created specially for and presented on Par Sands beach, conceived and directed by choreographer Rosemary Lee. Three performances for Friday 22, Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 June were commissioned by CAST for the Groundwork programme.ABEL RODRIGUEZ
Abel Rodriguez (Mogaje Guihu) is an elder from the Nonuya ethnic group from the Cahuinarà river in the Colombian Amazon. Now in his 70s, he has resettled on the outskirts of Bogotá having been displaced by the FARC guerrilla occupation and the exploitation of natural resources inthe rainforest.

Christina Mackie is best known for her composite sculptural installations, which unite disparate elements in a state of temporary synthesis. Born in England and raised in Canada before relocating to London in the 1980s, Mackie has exhibited extensively, with recent solo exhibitions including the Duveen Galleries, Tate Britain, (2015), Praxes, Berlin (2015); and The Renaissance Society, ChicagoA BANISHMENT SPELL
The ideas for this banishment workshop came from talks with Natalie Gyll-Murray and Rupert White from Addaction and Teresa Gleadowe and Josie Cockram from Groundwork. Addaction is a nationwide organisation that provides a meeting place, life skills and craft sessions for clients recovering from various types of addictions. WATER MUSIC AT TREMAYNE On the evening of Sunday 23 September 2018, a flotilla of seventy assorted vessels gathered near Tremayne quay, on the upper reaches of the Helford River, as the tide reached full flood. This small armada – of yachts, sailing boats, RIBs, pilot boats, dories, rowing boats, kayaks, canoes, ferry boats, gigs and even SUPs – GROUNDWORK : INTERNATIONAL ART IN CORNWALL Groundwork was a project organised by CAST, bringing internationally celebrated art and artists to Cornwall. A season of exhibitions and events ran from 5 May until 30 September 2018. With an emphasis on moving image, sound and performance, the programme presented new commissions and acclaimed works in special venues and outdoor sites. Manon de Boer Manon de Boer’s best known films include a series of portraits that consider the interplay between image and sound. I joined a group of artists, geologists, writers, filmmakers and students setting off from a bunkhouse near Helston to cut a rough line heading northeast acrossthe peninsula.

RICHMOND CHAPEL
Richmond Chapel is a Grade II listed building on Tolver Place in Penzance. Formerly a Wesleyan Methodist chapel, it was one of the last large buildings to be built in the town using Cornish granite and ashlar masonry. Ashlar construction uses finely worked stone blocks, characterised by smooth, even faces and square edges. RichmondMethodist

FIELD TRIP | BRICKWORKS Field Trip | Brickworks. 21 - 22 September. A brick clamp kiln is the oldest way of firing bricks. Bricks are stacked in formation, a fire is lit from underneath and slowly the water content evaporates, the heat builds and the bricks transform from clay into ceramic. A brickworks existed on the banks of the Fal estuary between 1891 and1907.

RICHMOND CHAPEL
Richmond Chapel is a Grade II listed building on Tolver Place in Penzance. Formerly a Wesleyan Methodist chapel, it was one of the last large buildings to be built in the town using Cornish granite and ashlar masonry. Ashlar construction uses finely worked stone blocks, characterised by smooth, even faces and square edges. RichmondMethodist

Andy Holden. Andy Holden is an artist and musician whose approach is characterised by a desire to connect to audiences, while retaining his own idiosyncratic internal references and motivations. Often concerned with our relationship to the past and how we make sense of ourselves, his work tackles history, nostalgia, and philosophical enquiry. FIELD TRIP | BRICKWORKS Field Trip | Brickworks. 21 - 22 September. A brick clamp kiln is the oldest way of firing bricks. Bricks are stacked in formation, a fire is lit from underneath and slowly the water content evaporates, the heat builds and the bricks transform from clay into ceramic. A brickworks existed on the banks of the Fal estuary between 1891 and1907.

MAY – SEPTEMBER 2018 Groundwork was a project organised by CAST , bringing internationally celebrated art and artists to Cornwall. A season of exhibitions and events ran from 5 May until 30 September 2018. With an emphasis on moving image, sound and performance, the programme presented new commissions and acclaimed works in special venues and outdoor sites. Contributors to the Groundwork programme included artists, writers, teachers, scientists, geographers, historians, geologists, botanists, film-makers and photographers.PROGRAMME
