THE HEDGECOMBERS
About Jane. I’m Janie, I’m a food writer, photographer and recipe creator. I share my home with Jonny and a little black rescue cat called Sassy. We breed Muscovy ducks for eggs and meat and have laying hens in the garden. And depending on the time of year, we’ll either have pigs in the field or bacon in the freezer.HOT SMOKED SALMON
Depending on the temperature of your smoker, a single fillet of salmon may be ready in as little as 20 minutes, whereas the large piece I was using took 50 minutes. Check the internal temperature at the thickest part of the fish with a thermometer. You are looking for a minimum of60'C.
DUTCH OVEN ROASTED CHICKEN, CAMPFIRE STYLE! Place a trivet in the bottom of your Dutch oven. You can also use a layer of root vegetables, or even a bunch of scrunched up tin foil. Anything that will raise the chicken off the bottom of the pan to prevent it burning. Lay the chicken on the trivet. Pop the lid on and place the Dutch oven on to the embers. Using a shovel, tongs or awelders
PLANTAIN SALVE RECIPE Place on the hob and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook gently for 2 hours. Carefully remove the jar from the hot water, and pour the contents through a piece of muslin over a sieve into a clean bowl. Just a healthy, energy boosting breakfast that BRITISH PORK PIE RECIPE Bake the pies in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Then reduce the oven to 160, and continue cooking for a further 50 minutes. Halfway through the cooking time, take out of the oven, remove the baking paper sleeves if using, and brush again all SIMPLE FLATBREAD RECIPE ~ CAMPFIRE COOKING Heat up a skillet or frying pan on the fire or gas stove and add a little dash of oil. You don't really want a lot of oil in there, just enough to stop the bread from sticking. Cook each flatbread for a couple minutes, until the dough puffs up with fat bubbles and the bottom looks golden brown in places. DAIRY FREE SEAFOOD CHOWDER Fry the bacon and onion gently in the oil for about 10 minutes, or until the onion has softened. Tip in the flour and cook for 2 minutes more. Add the hot fish stock and and potatoes and simmer for 10 minutes, or until the potatoes are cooked. Add the mace, cayenne pepper and coconut milk and bring back to the simmer. HOW TO MAKE HUMMUS WITHOUT A BLENDER Instructions. Tip the chickpeas into a straight sided pan, and mash really, really well with a potato masher until it is pretty smooth. Add in the tahini, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice and salt and mix together well. Seal the bag then massage the meat through the plastic with the aim of getting the seasoning to touch every single piece of beef. OLD FASHIONED COCONUT ROCK CAKES 4/ Sprinkle each rock cake with a little brown sugar. This will add a lovely crunchy topping to each cake. 5/ Bake in a pre-heated oven for 15-20 minutes. The top of each coconut rock cake should be golden brown, and the edges starting to get a little darker. 6/ Once they are cooked, remove them from the oven and let cool on a wire cooling rack. BASIC COOKIE DOUGH RECIPE (WITH VARIATIONS) Instructions. Preheat the oven to Fan 160c / 180c / 350f / Gas 4. Mix the softened butter and sugar until well blended. Stir in the eggs and honey and beat until light and fluffy. Add everything else, including the variation ingredients from below if you're using, and mix just until there are no dry ingredients showing.
