EXPERIENCES
HESC presents a fascinating insight into rare, vulnerable and endangered animal species and animal conservation efforts at large. It offers fun and engaging tours, and other specialised excursions to visitors.A range of accommodation options are also available for visitors looking to stay longer. This is the ideal base from which to explore the Greater Kruger area.ACCOMMODATION
Sebeka Farmhouse. The farmhouse-style cottage provides comfortable self-catering accommodation in three bedrooms. The area around the house is fenced providing an unspoilt view of animals passing by or grazing, while offering a protected and safe area for children to play and adults to relax. Reservations include bed and breakfast. ORPHANED ELEPHANTS, SHAWU AND TIMISA, GET BLOOD The youngest elephants in our care both recently underwent blood transfusions. Shawu is a young orphaned elephant that was brought to Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC) last November, after he was found wandering around on his own. Timisa, another orphaned baby elephant, was brought to Camp Jabulani in November as well, byElephants Alive.
MOPANE HAS A NEW FRIEND Mopane has a new friend – HESC provides sanctuary to a second orphaned elephant. A “Rae” of serendipity as another elephant calf joins Mopane at HESC. Two months ago, another elephant calf arrived at HESC. We were approached to assist with the baby elephant that had been found wandering on its own, in the Imfolozi Game Reserve inKwaZulu
CAPE BUFFALO
Cape Buffalo, also known as African Buffalo, are not considered vulnerable as they are plentiful in nature. The buffalo is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN as the species remains widespread, with a global population estimated at nearly 900 000 animals, of which more than three-quarters are ANTI-POACHING UNIT (APU) AT HESC Anti-Poaching Unit (APU) at HESC. Rhino poaching is one of the most significant conservation issues currently facing South Africa and it is showing no signs of slowing. The number of rhino poaching victims that have arrived at HESC over the past few years is a clear indication of just how rife the vicious attacks on this species is. HESC FOUNDER LENTE ROODE AWARDED FOR HER CONTRIBUTION TO 3 Comments. Lente Roode, founder of the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre and Camp Jabulani, has received a WESSA (Wildlife & Environmental Society of South Africa) Lifetime Conservation Achiever Award for her contribution to conservation in South Africa.
