HUMAN RIGHTS
HUMAN RIGHTS. Human rights is the most broadly respected framework for ensuring shared security and prosperity that the world has ever known. Human Rights define a spectrum of value for projects in the built environment, from plans and buildings that help vulnerable populations and disadvantaged people realize their basic rights, to those that actively violate the rights of life and liberty.CONTACT — ADPSR

What is solitary confinement? Supermax prisons are buildings specifically designed for long term solitary isolation. Psychological research has shown that solitary confinement beyond fifteen days leads directly to severe and irreversible psychological harm. HUMAN RIGHTS AND TRUMP NOVEMBER 15, 2016. To the shock and dismay of many architects and supporters around the county, the American Institute of Architects issued a broad and uncritical statement last week stating its "willingness to work with the Trump administration."DONATE — ADPSR

Just a few weeks ago, the American Institute of Architects changed its Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct -- a change that ADPSR has been demanding since 2013 — a victory for human rights, for ADPSR, and for our members. ADPSR will seek out those projects that egregiously undermine people’s health, safety, and welfare and demand that their designers terminate their engagement with the FLOYD, RACISM, AND ARCHITECTURE Floyd, racism, and architecture. Our country is on fire yet again, engulfed in horror and grief over the unabated racism of our power structure seen in the death of George Floyd, the killing of Ahmaud Arbery, and the insidious racism of Amy Cooper. Architecture, design, and planning have many connections to the web of injustice that flowsfrom
ZERO-TOLERANCE IMMIGRATION joint statement with the architecture lobby. The Architecture Lobby and ADPSR condemn the Justice Department’s zero-tolerance immigration enforcement policy issued on April 6, 2018. It is immoral and inhumane to separate children from their parents, and to use family separation to deter people seeking refuge or asylum. ADPSR MOURNS THE PASSING OF NATIONAL BOARD MEMBER MICHAEL The national board of ADPSR is greatly saddened by the passing of one of our own members, Michael Sorkin. Sorkin was 71 years old and lived and worked in New York City, but his sphere of concern and influence was global. Michael was a generous out-of-the box thinker. He was feisty as hell and filled with life and energy.FAQ HUMAN RIGHTS

Floyd, racism, and architectureJun 2, 2020
There is no difference between cops killing black men on the streets and prison guards killing black men in execution chambers, except that architects, designers, and planners are more complicit in the latter. ADPSR demands that the American Institute of Architects stand against the execution of black people and all people and prevent members from designing execution chambers. The AIA Board of Directors can overrule the National Ethics Council, AIA Members can vote for a new policy, and the National Ethics Council can even change its mind and issue anew opinion.
