In addition to the aircraft, we have four Link Trainers: an ANT 18 and D4 in working order; an ANT 18 which is floor mounted and has been adapted to display a computer flight simulation program for younger children; a D4/2 which is also floor mounted and instruments will be made "live" in due course. Set on a plateau above the Waveney Valley about two miles south of Bungay and just beyond the village of Flixton, is the site of Bungay airfield. Initially allocated to the Eighth Air Force on 4th June 1942 as a bomber base, Bungay was constructed by Kirk & Kirk Ltd, and given the US Station number 125. The bombing offensive against the Axis powers lasted for six years, during which time 55,573 Royal Air Force British and Commonwealth, and 76,000 USAAF, aircrew perished. Bomber Command’s casualties amounted to almost one seventh of all British deaths in action on land, sea and air between 1939 and 1945. The spectacular success of the Battle R.O.C. - AVIATION MUSEUM The Royal Observer Corps Museum. The museum traces the history of the Corps, from the beacon lighters of Elizabethan times, to LADA, (The London Air Defence Area) of World War One, to its official inauguration in 1925, through to its standing down in 1991. MUSEUM OPEN DATES
Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday 10am - 4pm With assistance from The Heritage Lottery Emergency Fund and Arts Council England who have both generously provided grants the museum has once again be able to open from April 18th. We are now open both inside and out. The NAAFI will also be open inside the hangar. The rooms behind the shop are too small for a one way system so will not open.FUTURE
Subject to the lockdown easing as currently scheduled we hope to be able to reopen the rooms behind the shop plus we also intend to open various aircraft from June 21st.IMPORTANT UPDATE
In line with government regulations we can not accept groups of more than six (unless demonstrably from one household) inside the buildings. Outside the rule is 30.FREE ADMISSION
