HOW TO ATTACH HARDWARE CLOTH? Hi! I am building a semi-permanent coop and I need some suggestions for how to attach the hardware cloth. All the coops I have seen here have nice, straight, and tight cloth. I have tried a staple gun, but I was just wondering if there were any other stronger/more durablesuggestions.
CHICKENS WITH BARE RED BOTTOMS I feed them regular layer pellets and corn scratch along with table scraps and have just started giving them grit. I have just begun giving them suet, as well. Nest boxes (2) are raised about 1-1/2 feet above the ground and are protected. I do light the birds and have just switched to a red light, which supposedly will camouflage the redmarks

CONFUSED ON WHEN TO STOP TURNING EGGS This is were I'm thrown off. Chicken eggs typically take 21 days to hatch. Correct. And my incubator is an automatic turning unit. It is factory set to stop turning two days before hatching. That is day 19. And everyone says stop turning on day 18. Which is it? Am I missingsomething?
WHEN TO PUT NEW BABY CHICKS IN WITH OLDER ONES? When I introduce chicks to the coop, I place the chicks inside early in the day after all the hens finish laying. They hang out in there until just before dark when I let the big girls inside to roost. Normally, the babies are roosting, and the big girls hop up beside them and there's very little drama. HOW DO I SEX BUFF ORPINGTON CHICKS? On a more serious note, not sure how soon you need to determine the sex, but between 3-4 weeks (I have 12 buff orpingtons - 11 pullets, 1 rooster), my rooster's comb definitely started getting a darker red and split. That's when we decided to rename "Missy" to "Ernie"! It was a good call. Ernie is now 8 weeks old and definitely my only buff FLOAT TESTING, CHECKING EGG VIABILITY FOR LATE OR OVERDUE Many Folks Are Having Eggs Go Overdue For Hatch And Wondering If They Are Duds, Late, Or Have Had Some Sort Of Fetal Demise. I started with 2 inherited hens in January, and can't stop. My flock is up to 68 chickens (mostly chicks), 3 guinea, 6 peachicks, 9 ducks, and 3 turkeys. I'm trying to do everything possible for a healthy flock. I have been reading a lot on of good advice here, so decided tojoin.

Hello, We have been raising gamefowl on and off our whole lives,, we recently acquired alot of chickens and since there are so many breeds and crosses we aren't quite sure about some of them so we decided to join and get some more experienced people to help us determine what weactually have.

TRIMMING YOUR CHICKEN'S NAILS Steps to Nail Trimming. With a damp rag wipe any dirt or mud from the feet. Clean feet will be easier to trim. Grasp the chicken's toe between your thumb and forefinger to keep it still. A chicken will often try to pull its foot away from you while you trim its nails, so it is important to hold it still. COLD AND 6-8 WEEK OLD CHICKS your 6-8 week old birds are now able to withstand the temps in your area well. A bit of shelter from rain and wind is good but have good ventilation. The breeds are different but most commomn breeds are fully feathered at 6 weeks. Some slow maturing birds may need to go to 8 or 10 weeks but those are few and far between.__ __ __ __
