Programme Manager Jane McCarthy describes how Microsoft Teams was rolled out to 9,200 staff during the first few weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. WHAT DISCOVERY, ALPHA, BETA, AND LIVE MEAN AT PARLIAMENT Alpha. Alpha follows the discovery phase and is where the team takes the new insights and findings and begins to experiment with solutions to the challenge. Alpha is about creating lots of different ideas and rapidly testing them to see what works and what needs throwing away. These ideas and experiments are tested with a select few users in BUILDING A HEALTHY AND HAPPY TEAM Building a healthy and happy team. Team health has become a passion of mine in the past few years and is at the heart of my objectives in my new role in PDS . Happy and healthy teams deliver at the peak of their capacity and capabilities and they can often be incredible things to be part of. This blog post is written from the perspective of ABOLITION PETITIONS TO THE HOUSE OF COMMONS Quakers led the way, having established the first anti-slavery committees and delivered the first abolition petition to the House of Commons in 1783. John Wesley, the leader of the eighteenth-century Methodist revival, was also an activist for the abolition movement. Most petitions presented to the House of Commons before 1834 have notsurvived.
SOLVING PROBLEMS WITH PARLIAMENT’S DIGITAL SUPPORT DESK As a first-line role, the Digital Support Desk speaks directly to people to help solve their IT issues. They call us with various problems, and we work to solve them. The queries we receive vary from day-to-day: a printer may have gone offline, or some emails are stuck in the outbox in Outlook. Sometimes, the issue is more complex. I SEE THE BIRDS HAVE FLOWN I SEE THE BIRDS HAVE FLOWN. The 4th January 1642 was a day of high-drama within the Palace of Westminster as the toxic relationship between King Charles I and his Parliament reached endgame. Over the last year, PDS has been working behind the scenes on a programme to transform the way digital services operate in Parliament. The catalyst for this work was a review in 2019.
