Märtens injured his foot skiing, and subsequently finding the standard-issue boots uncomfortable, fashioned his own. Emma Cowan (COM ’22) views gender bias in movies as a reflection of the present movie industry. “One of the biggest problems with film is representation in movies,” Cowan said. Looking at the restaurants that have popped up across the city of Boston, and across many cities in the United States, it looks like the next food trend is veganism and vegetarianism. Of course, a diet change of any magnitude — going fat free, gluten free, or meat free — is a big change. That’s why Christopher Hendrickson, Grassroots STAY CLASSY, BU: MAINTAINING PROFESSIONALISM IN AN ONLINE The story of ex-PR executive Justine Sacco is a testimony to the importance of minding your manners online. GENDER BIAS IN THE FILM INDUSTRY With the Oscars airing tonight, more females in the film industry are being recognized, although not as many women are being actually represented in these films. Emma Cowan (COM ’22) views gender bias in movies as a reflection of the present movie industry. “One of the biggest problems with film is representation in movies,” Cowan said. CGS IS MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE If you walk into the lobby of the College of General Studies sometime in the next few days, you’ll hear a voice floating through the air. A video plays on the lobby wall facing the doorway, old black and white photos augmented by the voice of Linda Wells, the current Dean of CGS. I’m white.”. GRADE DEFLATION: IT FINALLY MAKES SENSE Grade deflation is not making an exam super hard so that the average is 50% and then curving the exam to an 80% (B-) average. The idea of professors writing exams this difficult (notably in pre-med courses) is certainly a questionable testing practice. THE LGBT MOUNT RUSHMORE: THE FACES OF THE GAY RIGHTS Some of The LGBT Politicians lead by success and example, while others lead by lending their hugely appreciated support to the gay rights movement. The most recognizable candidate is Harvey Milk, the man who was popularized by his eponymous movie. Milk was the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California.
