Dogs are allowed at beaches 1 and 6. GARRAPATA STATE PARK Garrapata Beach at Garrapata State Park is located along the northern Big Sur coastline about ten miles south of Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA. The waterfront of the park is four miles long, but the only sandy beach is at the south end. Garrapata Beach has two parking areas along the shoulder of Highway 1. THE CRATER BEACH, SAND CITY, CA The Crater Beach in Sand City, California. “The Crater” and its adjacent beach are known as a clothing-optional area, but they should be known for the sandy playground that they comprise. The Crater is a huge depression in the dunes that has sand rising up around it on all sides. Some slopes are gentle while others are downright steep. JADE COVE, BIG SUR, CA Jade Cove in Big Sur, California. Jade Cove is a rocky cove south of Sand Dollar Picnic Area on the southern Big Sur Coast. Jade Cove is known for the jade stones that have been plucked from these waters for years. Monterey Jade comes in many colors including grayish green (most common), emerald green, black, red, blue, and even white.
