CASEL was formed in 1994 with the goal of establishing high-quality, evidence-based social and emotional learning (SEL) as an essential part of preschool through high school education. From the beginning, CASEL was comprised of a distinguished national leadership team that identified key issues to advance the science and practice ofSEL.

The Schoolwide SEL Process. The CASEL Guide to Schoolwide SEL leads school-based teams through a process for systemic SEL implementation. This process helps schools coordinate and build upon SEL practices and programs to create an environment that infuses SEL into every part of students’ educational experience and promotes equitable outcomes. MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL EDITION The CASEL Guide provides a systematic framework for evaluating the quality of social and emotional programs and applies this framework to identify and rate well-designed, evidence-based SEL programs with potential for broad dissemination to schools across the United States. The Positive Action program is designed to promote a healthy self-concept and to establish positive actions for the body and mind.The program emphasizes effective self-management, social skills, character, and mental health, as well as skills for setting andachieving goals.

Preschool & Elementary SELect Program Program Design and Implementation Support. The I Can Problem Solve program teaches students how to generate alternative solutions, anticipate consequences, and effectively solve problems. It is designed for use in prekindergarten through the elementary grades and is divided into three sets of lessons for prekindergarten (59 lessons), BELONGING AND EMOTIONAL SAFETY Belonging and Emotional Safety. Learning Goals. As part of their participation in the CSI, states are asked to develop customized SEL plans and activities based on each state’s unique context. Some states are developing guidelines or professional learning to support student SEL. Others are articulating learning goals for student SEL. Some are strategically integrating SEL MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL EDITION The CASEL Guide provides a systematic framework for evaluating the quality of social and emotional programs and applies this framework to identify and rate well-designed, evidence-based SEL programs with potential for broad dissemination to schools across the United States.
