COOL AND COLLECTED
Cool & Collected is a site for collectors of vintage toys, pop culture, movie posters and memorabilia, and collectibles. We profile collectors and their collections. COLLECTIBLES OF TOMORROW Collectibles of Tomorrow. History shows that pop culture icons become most collectible around 25-30 years after their height of popularity–this is when kids who grew up with the toy are old enough to get nostalgic, and have the funds available to seek out those treasures from their youth. Think about it, around 30 years ago, themost popular
MASSIVE STAR WARS COLLECTION FOR SALE Massive Star Wars collection for sale. Calling all Star Wars collectors: a major collection is up for sale, and by “major,” I mean FRIGGIN’ HUGE! Brett’s Toy Room in Syracuse, New York is up for sale. Brett has curated a collection of Star Wars toys ranging from the original Kenner toys from the 70’s to modern toys thatrecently hit
CHECK OUT THAT RACK! The spinner rack they were selling was THE rack that we all remember from the local drugstores and mom and pop shops of our childhood. The metal header panel features Richie Rich, Spider-Man, Archie, and Superman, and it makes that nostalgically ear-crushing squeal as you spin it around. Needless to say, I was thrilled to hear that the rackwas
INVASION OF THE VINTAGE SPACEMEN! A company called Glencoe reproduced these figures not too long ago and distinguishing them from the originals is no easy task. Archer Spacemen like these usually sell for around $2-5, which makes them great for building an army! Here are a couple of figures that are similar in size and style to the Archer figures, but they’re notquite the same.
YARD SALE FINDS
Paid: $3.00Current Value: $5.00. At one sale, I loaded a small box full of action figures including these Star Wars and Gormiti figures, along with a couple of Pokemon, Galactic Heroes, and a Batman on a Batcycle, and some other random items. You gotta love Star Wars figures that still have their guns rubber banded to their hands. 1960’S NAUGA MONSTER DOLLS ARE HIP! I have a monster doll exactally like the one you have listed that you bought at yard sale. Do you know what year or name this doll was. My husband brought this doll home one evening and pitched on the sofa, since we had no children I thought he was nuts. 1984: POSSIBLY THE GREATEST YEAR IN POP CULTURE HISTORY Some of the historical pop culture events in 1984: Apple Computer’s famous ad “1984” launches the Macintosh computer line. Hulk Hogan defeats The Iron Sheik to win his first World Wrestling Federation championship. Michael Jackson’s hair catches fire while filming aPepsi commercial.
SLASH IS HAVING A YARD SALE Slash is Having a Yard Sale — and there are Dinosaurs! Well, it’s not really a yard sale, but the Guns n Roses and Velvet Revolver guitarist is unloading a bunch of his stuff at auction. As you might expect, there is a ton of his clothes and guitars, but what interested me was all the cool things he used to decorate his home. HAKE’S AUCTION IS INFESTED WITH HAMILTON’S INVADERS! Hake’s Auction is Infested with Hamilton’s Invaders! Remco produced Hamilton’s Invaders toys and play sets in 1964, trying to cash in on the popularity of the giant insect genre of movies of the time. The large insect toys had pull-string motors that propelled them towards the poor blue plastic soldiers ineffectively armed withbazookas

VINTAGE AURORA MODEL KITS These model kit boxes were built with heavy cardboard to protect the fragile plastic models inside, and as a result, the boxes have held up amazingly well. The larger sized boxes are a little bashed and beaten but the long skinnier boxes look like they just came off the store shelf back in the 60’s. Reader Interactions. Marion Cobretti’s 1950 Mercury is one sweet ride! This week, the League asked what is the sweetest ride cruising the streets of pop culture. For me, this was a no-brainer. The sweetest ride in any movie is Marion Cobretti’s custom 1950 Mercury Monterey from the 1986movie, Cobra.
POP CULTURE FOUND AT THE SMITHSONIAN MUSEUMS The museum had a room to celebrate the year 1939, where I found these two vintage comic books. Superman was “born” into comic book history with Action Comics #1 in 1938. 1939 was also the year that The Wizard of Oz debuted in theaters. GODZILLA BOARD GAME BY IDEAL (1963) Ideal released this game in 1963 when Godzilla was in his heyday and was raging across Tokyo and the world. This game is said to be the first Godzilla toy produced for the US market, and only the second Godzilla toy ever made, after a dart gun set that was released in Japan in 1955. Like most of the board games of the time, the ruleswere

ACTION FIGURE PHOTOGRAPHY DIY: BUILD YOUR OWN CUSTOM DIORAMA There are a couple of reasons for doing this:1. the paint helps to further glue any loose items down, and 2. the paint is water-based acrylic. TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES SOLD TO NICKELODEON The Mirage Group, owners of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles(TM) property, have sold the iconic brand to Nickelodeon – part of MTV Networks, a division of Viacom Inc. 4Kids Entertainment has received a payment of approximately $9.75 million at the Closing in consideration of its agreement to terminate its right to serve as the merchandise licensing agent prior to the scheduled expiration of MARION COBRETTI’S 1950 MERCURY IS ONE SWEET RIDE!

ABOUT COOL & COLLECTED About Cool & Collected. Cool and Collected is a web site devoted to us crazy few who go to great lengths to acquire items for our collection. We camp outside toy stores, we troll eBay obsessively, and we may even stalk former cast members of Star Trek. Some might call us ACTION FIGURE PHOTOGRAPHY Action Figure Photography — new lighting setup! I love to take photos of action figures but it’s a bit of a headache to set up the light booth and lamps. It’s not easy when you have to dismantle your photo booth and lighting setup after every session. I was inspired by Philip’s new home photo studio over at Battlegrip, and challenged ACTION FIGURE PHOTOGRAPHY DIY: BUILD YOUR OWN CUSTOM DIORAMA There are a couple of reasons for doing this:1. the paint helps to further glue any loose items down, and 2. the paint is water-based acrylic. I knew that I would be using spray paint later on, but spray paint will literally melt styrofoam, which is not something I wanted to do, so the house paint serves as a protective primer for thestyrofoam.

Ron is an old guy who wears a purple hoodie with the draw strings pulled tight, so all you see is his large, pointy nose and and his toothless gums. Ron likes to dig tunnels underground and reinforce the walls with cinderblocks, old doors, furniture, and anything else he can scrounge. Ron collects plungers. Ron is very frightening.
