The Coastal Research and Education Society of Long Island, was founded in the summer of 1996 by a group of experts in marine mammal science, environmental sciences, education and conservation. CRESLI was formed for the purposes of conducting research, providing educational experiences and promoting conservation of coastal ecosystems. COASTAL RESEARCH AND EDUCATION SOCIETY OF LONG ISLAND It was a mutual, but unhappy decision to cancel our 2020 Offshore whale watch. It would be absolutely impossible to maintain social distancing in the bunkrooms, galley, or elsewhere, and the need to disinfect surfaces while at sea for several days would also be difficult to do thoroughly. COASTAL RESEARCH AND EDUCATION SOCIETY OF LONG ISLAND CRESLI volunteers are an invaluable resource and participate in all of our activities, including marine mammal research expeditions and cruises, data collection and public education programs. Volunteers receive hands-on training and experience from CRESLI's research staff while participating in challenging and rewarding activities. Hooded seals are a less numerous seal than the harp, but inhabit the same regions of the world. These seals feed on fish, squid, shrimp and mussels. COASTAL RESEARCH AND EDUCATION SOCIETY OF LONG ISLAND Sunday, March 10, 2013. 40 harbor seals (hauled out and swimming) during an early research trip, at 10:30 there were 12 harbor seals swimming and none hauled-out; at 11:04, 40 hauled out. Returned at 12:40 with the seal walk group, but none were hauled out; just about 18 swimming around. photos. Hooded seals are a less numerous seal than the harp, but inhabit the same regions of the world. These seals feed on fish, squid, shrimp and mussels. COASTAL RESEARCH AND EDUCATION SOCIETY OF LONG ISLAND Ms. Dussault served 6 years with New York State Marine Mammals and Sea Turtle Stranding Program (1990-1996), is actively involved with marine environmental and conservation issues, and is a board member of the Long Island Mycological Club. She has been a CRESLI volunteer since 1996 and was elected to join the Board of Directors in 2004. COASTAL RESEARCH AND EDUCATION SOCIETY OF LONG ISLAND Scientists from the Coastal Research and Education Society of Long Island have been studying cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises) for over two decades. Dr. Artie Kopelman, have been investigating fin and humpback whale populations and conducting population and distribution surveys for other cetaceans in New York's waters.*

Join us at Cupsogue Beach, or the outer islands of eastern Long Island Sound to learn about, view, and photograph the wild seals of New York ------------------------- The Coastal Research and Education Society of Long Island, was founded in the summer of 1996 by a group of experts in marine mammal science, environmental sciences, education and conservation. CRESLI was formed for the purposes of conducting research, providing educational experiences and promoting conservation of coastal ecosystems. Research and education are inextricably linked in all CRESLI activities. As such, CRESLI actively seeks cooperative alliances with researchers, educational institutions, and the participation of the public. Our pinniped and cetacean research projects, for example, utilize public whale watch cruises and seal walks as platforms for collecting data and educating the public at thesame time.
We are committed to our mission and have been since 1996. Join us on any of our excursions, lectures, activities to learn about our coastal waters and the ecosystems therein. Come out on trips top see the amazing diversity of marine mammals, sea turtles, pelagic birds, and other marine life. Become a member and/or a volunteer and join us inour work.
