The black caiman is the largest member of the alligator family, and the largest predator in the Amazon River basin, with adult males averaging 4–5 metres (13.1–16.4 feet) in length. Scientific Name: Crocodylus siamensis Common Names: Siamese Crocodile Maximum adult length: 3 metres (9.8 feet) N.B. Exceptionally large specimens can be found in all species of crocodilian. The Siamese crocodile is a freshwater crocodile native to Asia. Little is known about this critically endangered species, which has already been eradicated from many regions. Since 2017, we have bred Tomistoma (the only zoo in the UK to do so), and by breeding and raising the young Tomistoma, we are learning volumes about these animals that will assist future conservation projects for the species that could perhaps be based on breeding, raising and releasing young Tomistoma back into protected areas withinBLACK CAIMAN

The species RESCUED YACARE CAIMAN JOIN THE ZOO Rescued Yacare caiman join the zoo. Helping crocodiles around the world is an important part of our work here at the zoo, and so we were pleased to be able to help rescue six Yacare caiman and give them a new home here at the zoo. The animals were part of a large seizure of crocodilians in Canada and would have been euthanized if new homes had NEW KOMODO DRAGON ENCLOSURE UPDATE New Komodo Dragon Enclosure Update. Work is now well underway for a new much larger enclosure for Batu our Komodo Dragon. His new enclosure is an extension of his current space in between the main zoo and croc house. The enclosure will be four times the size of his current space and will have extensive viewing windows thanks to itssemi

Here at Crocodiles of the World we boast one of the widest collections of crocodiles, alligators and caiman in Europe. We are home to 17 of the world’s 24 species, including Cuban and Siamese crocodiles who are two of the most critically endangered species and Saltwater crocodiles who are the most feared in the world. The nearest bus stop is 0.7 miles away on Monahan Way, so there would be a 15 minute walk from there to the Park. NEW CAIMAN LIZARD ENCLOSURE Take a look at our Caiman lizards exploring their new home which has been specially designed for these semi-aquatic lizards. We have one male and two female Caiman lizards. The male and smaller female are around 5 ½ years old and the larger female is slightly older. They measure between 80cm andBLACK CAIMAN
Black Caiman. Scientific Name: Melanosuchus niger Common Names: Black Caiman Maximum adult length: 5 metres (16.4 feet) N.B. Exceptionally large specimens can be found in all species of crocodilian. The black caiman is the largest member of the alligator family, and the largest predator in the Amazon River basin, with adult males averaging 4–5 metres (13.1–16.4 feet) in length. The species RESCUED YACARE CAIMAN JOIN THE ZOO Rescued Yacare caiman join the zoo. Helping crocodiles around the world is an important part of our work here at the zoo, and so we were pleased to be able to help rescue six Yacare caiman and give them a new home here at the zoo. He is a five year old Komodo Dragon, weighing in at an impressive 25kgs (almost 4st) and is currently just over 2m (6.5ft) in length. He is part of the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP) and European Studbook (ESB). A Historical Day. Insurance and risk management CONTACT | CROCODILES OF THE WORLD The Park is difficult to access via public transport. The nearest bus stop is 0.7 miles away on Monahan Way, so there would be a 15 minute walk from there to the Park. There is no footpath along Burford Road so we advise you take extra care when attempting to walk down it as itis a fast road.

TOMISTOMA CONSERVATION Protecting one of the world’s least-known crocodilian. Since 2017, we have bred Tomistoma (the only zoo in the UK to do so), and by breeding and raising the young Tomistoma, we are learning volumes about these animals that will assist future conservation projects for the species that could perhaps be based on breeding, raising and releasing young Tomistoma back into protected areas within KOMODO DRAGON EXPERIENCE Come meet Batu our amazing Komodo Dragon.
