SAVE THE PLASTICS!
Compared with wood, ceramics, silver or glass, plastics are a relatively new material in heritage collections. Design Museum Gent and S.M.A.K. jointly preserve approximately 4,000 objects that completely or partially are made of plastic, which is why they decided to launch a plastics project. KUBUS – WILHELM WAGENFELD Wilhelm Wagenfeld designed these modular glass food containers for Vereinigte Lausitzer Glaswerke, the company whose artistic director he became in 1935. Kubus is stackable and therefore space-saving. Rational, functional, perfectly suited to mass production, and yet aesthetic: Wagenfeld’s C 1 – WILLY VAN DER MEEREN Willy Van Der Meeren was Âperhaps the most committed Âdesigner of ‘modern social Âfurniture’, the movement with which Adelbert Van de Walle, the curator of this Âmuseum in the 1950s, organized three sales exhibitions. At these ‘national fairs for modern social furniture’, Van de Walle gathered THE SENSE OF COLOUR. HOW DESIGNERS WORK WITH COLOUR How does colour affect a space or an object? What is the impact of colour on our environment and the way we perceive things? The exhibition Kleureyck focuses on the origin and impact of colour. Some 100 design pieces demonstrate how light, matter and patterns have aneffect on colour.
