DORSEY DESIGNS
DIY and Interiors by Sarah + David. Oh, Hi There! Hi! I am Sarah! I'm an Interior Designer, DIYer, Graphic Designer, Blogger, wife to the most amazing husband, momma to our sweet son and puppy mom to Annabelle and Charlotte! REFINISHING RATTAN CHAIRS Today I’m sharing how we refinished the rattan chairs. They were a little extra work than originally anticipated (as usual in goodwill/craigslist, etc. I was enamored by the potential and didn’t see all of the work ) All in all, it wasn’t too bad and the end result definitely made it worth it! Here’s ourKITCHEN REVEAL
We love our new kitchen! A large part of that is the appliances – they work well, are super quiet and the clean, modern lines seamlessly blend into our kitchen. Be sure to stay tuned for the full reveal on The Home Depot’s blog, The Apron! Here are the direct links to our appliances – to view the entire black stainless Samsung line, click HOW TO INSTALL A DRUM SHADE OVER A CHANDELIER Below I drew a section (drawing cutting through the fixture) to explain how we put it together. Here’s how we did it: 1. The piece that covers the electrical housing was taken from the top of the chandelier (ours was just big enough to cover the hole) 2. The long rod with treaded ends was the main brass tube that the chandelier hungfrom.
DIY BIRCH + LUCITE FRAMES Clean the wood and plywood with a cloth and mount prints to plywood. Apply acid free double sided adhesive on the back of the print (We used double sized scrapbook adhesive circles). Measure center on the plywood (a T square works well for this) Secure print to plywood. Place lucite on frame and secure four corners with 1/2″ cap headscrews.
HOW TO BUILD A CAMPAIGN STYLE DESK We also needed: Brass Screws. Wood Glue. Then the two 1x12s were cut and glued together and held with a clamp. Once dry, 5 supports were cut out of 1×2 poplar, the same width as the top and attached to the bottom of the desk with glue and screws and clamped to dry (The last support should be snug against the leg so make sure to account for HOW TO MAKE STANDARD SHAMS OUT OF KING PILLOWCASES + HOW Pretty simple concept, but it ends up being a lot of detail work, like about 36 little exact folds that need to be ironed a few times. I cut 16 – 4″ strips and 5 – 6″ pieces and 2 – 16″ pieces for the long straight. I laid them out, put heat ‘n bond adhesive underneath and ironed. Mistake # 2 If ironed too long, the heat n’bond
TUFTED HEADBOARD WITH NAILHEAD Nailhead. Tools needed: Chop saw. Long needle (for tufting) Hammer (for nailhead) Upholstery stapler. We decided to make the headboard flush with a queen mattress 60″ wide, a few extra inches would work too. First the boys worked on the frame. Above is the completed wood frame, minus the 1/2″ plywood behind the legs (to make it flush HOW TO PICK THE PERFECT GRAY PAINT COLOR 1. Pick out several samples (~10) or use a paint deck and look at them side by side. This allows you to easily determine the undertones 2. Look at the samples in the room that the paint will be in (at different points during the day, especially for wall colors). The light will make all of the difference! LACK TABLES TO UPHOLSTERED OTTOMANS This weekend we finished upholstering our old Ikea Lack tables into skirted upholstered ottomans. As you can see, they were in rough shape. This was the first piece of furniture that I painted before I did some research. This is proof that using the right paint and good techniques are important! See this post andDORSEY DESIGNS

I fell in love with a square headboard with wings from Charm Home Design and decided to make my own version with David’s help of course!. Measurements below are for a queen bed; however you can easily adjust the measurements for any size bed, by measuring your frame and adding about 1/2″ to an 1″ on each side for the center measurement.DIY WOOD VENEER ART
1. To get started, prepare the mat board this is what you will adhere the wood veneer to. It will need to fit inside your frame. From your frame – remove the mat, or front piece of paper to use as a template. Place it on the corner edge of the mat board and make a few marks (about every 8″) on the edge of the template to trace it. MUDROOM BUILT IN BENCH To accommodate the shelves, the center vertical sections are made of three 1/2″ sections of plywood and the outer ends and top and bottom are two 3/4″ sections. The inner boards are cut to create a groove for the shelves to sit. We started by cutting a 15″ strip of 3/4″ plywood for the bottom and then measured to create five even sections. BATHROOM ORGANIZATION We’ve been hard at work finishing up our lower bathroom and we are so close! Color me Coral. This post has been sponsored by Sherwin-Williams. All opinions are 100% mine, if you’ve been reading for a while, you probably know that. Over the weekend I started painting this dresser that I picked up at a thrift store a few months ago, MUDCLOTH ENTRY BENCH Front and back (x2) 31″ x 16.5″. Top and sides piece (x1) 63″ x 16.5″. Once all pieces were cut, I hemmed all sides that would be on the bottom of the ottoman, so the short ends of the long piece (future sides) and one of the long sides of both the front and back (4 sides will be hemmed). I just folded about 1/2″ to make a clean edge.DORSEY DESIGNS
