EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION FOR PALLIATIVE CARE The EAPC is a forum for those working, or with an interest in palliative care throughout Europe and beyond. Our members are engaged in palliative care across the lifespan from EDUCATION TRAINING IN PALLIATIVE CARE Year 3 and 4 (May 2021 – April 2023) To deepen collaboration between already existing partners and structures and to build up the EAPC Network on Education. • to update existing curricula in a peer-reviewed and 4-years-period, both on under- and postgraduate level. Updates will be published on the EAPC website subsequently. HEART DISEASE (2021) Aims. 1. To improve care for patients with advanced heart disease by establishing palliative care as a usual component of comprehensive care for people with heart disease. OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY The overall aim of the Task Force is to set a research agenda for intervention studies in occupational therapy in palliative care. The specific objectives are as follows: 1. To identify the range and quality of existing research, through a scoping review of the research literature on OT intervention studies in palliative care. 2. MAPPING OF PALLIATIVE CARE (2013) The EAPC Review of Palliative Care in Europe appeared in 2008, and associated articles were published in peer-reviewed journals. One article examined data on palliative medicine as an area of certified specialisation in the 52 European countries. Another compiled facts and indicators on the development of palliative care in thosecountries.
ADVANCE CARE PLANNING IN DEMENTIA For example, with dementia, managing and anticipating an uncertain course of the disease, and preparing family caregivers for a central role in end-of-life decision making are essential. INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY The Reference Group on Intellectual Disability is currently analysing the responses to an international survey about the care and support given to people with Intellectual Disabilities at the end of their lives, both before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. AGING AND PALLIATIVE CARE Objectives of the Reference Group on Aging and Palliative Care. The overall aim of the Reference Group on Ageing and Palliative is to advance our understanding of palliative care for older people, particularly those with frailty, identify key areas for improving practice, policy and research, and compiling evidence-based practices to improve palliative care for older across a variety of settings. SPIRITUAL CARE
The Spiritual Care reference group started in 2010 as a multidisciplinary task force aimed at the development and implementation of spiritual care methods and standards to meet adequately the spiritual care needs of patients, informal and formal caregivers in all palliative care settings. It became a reference group in 2019 focusing on PRISONERS PALLIATIVE CARE The Task Force was launched at EAPC Congress in Madrid in May 2017. It has two main aims: To undertake scoping work in at least five countries to map the current provision of palliative care for prisoners; To develop an international network of professionals interested in palliative care for prisoners from as many European countries as possible COSTS OF FAMILY CAREGIVING No matter what the cost: A qualitative study of the financial costs faced by family and whānau caregivers within a palliative care context. Methodological considerations for researching the financial costs of family caregiving within a WISH TO HASTEN DEATH Recently, a group of international experts in the field (3), led by members of this task force proposal, agreed on an operational definition of the wish to hasten death, which can be regarded as a specific manifestation of the DD. INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY The Reference Group on Intellectual Disability is currently analysing the responses to an international survey about the care and support given to people with Intellectual Disabilities at the end of their lives, both before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. JULIE LING – EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION FOR PALLIATIVE CARE, EAPC Julie Ling has been CEO of the European Association for Palliative Care since January 2015. Originally a nurse, Julie has worked in palliative care for over thirty years in both adult and children’spalliative care.
MAPPING OF PALLIATIVE CARE (2013) The EAPC Review of Palliative Care in Europe appeared in 2008, and associated articles were published in peer-reviewed journals. One article examined data on palliative medicine as an area of certified specialisation in the 52 European countries.
