May 6, 2021 by eatteachblog Leave a Comment. Happy almost Friday to all those who celebrate! Ha. I’m not working this year and Ankur doesn’t get weekends off this month, so Friday is just like any other day over here. Today, however, was Ankur’s day off and that was really nice. Ishaan woke his mama up around 4am BA-PA'S BIRTHDAY : EAT TEACH BLOG Ba-Pa’s Birthday. Good morning! I’m typing this up as Ishu is playing with his Dadi. He’s currently fascinated with her pink fingernails and is having too much fun to notice that is mama isn’t sitting next to him. And I’m loving it. I’m sitting here at the kitchen table watching them love each other, sipping on some coffee. FULL BODY HUGS : EAT TEACH BLOG Full Body Hugs. I AM VACCINATED! I got my second shot yesterday morning and, aside from a little soreness, I haven’t had any symptoms. THE END IS NEAR. I feel it. I could feel it yesterday while waiting in line. Everyone was grinning and it felt light and airy and happy. Ankur stayed outside to watch Ishu while I popped in to get theshot.
I QUIT TEACHING MID YEAR. HERE'S WHY. AND HERE'S HOW I I quit teaching mid year. I turned my back on the county because they turned their back on students. Here's how I remind myself this was agood decision.

ALL HE SEES IS MAMA
June 4, 2021 By eatteachblog1 Comment
Ishu really loves looking at pictures. Especially when the pictures are of people he knows. At my parents’ house, we have family portraits up and he likes to point to them, naming the people he recognizes. Like, every time we walk up or down the stairs, he sees the three portraits on the wall. We had them taken back in 1999. One of my sister, one of me, and one of my mom and dad. He’ll point to each one. “Ma,” he says as he points to my sister. Trying to say “Masi.” “Mama,” he smiles as he points to my picture. “Nana,” he repeats twice when we walk past my mom and dad’sportrait.
And, sometimes, he’ll STAND IN FRONT OF THE PORTAL TV or the digital picture frame with rotating pictures, and he’ll callout names.
Every single time a really old picture of me pops up – from years and years ago – I hold my breath. I’m skinnier in these pictures. Noticeably skinnier. And I have this fear that he’s going to see one of those pictures and not see his mama in them. It happens every time. I hold my breath. Pray that he sees me. It’s silly. It shouldn’t matter so much to me. But it does. But the worry need not happen. Because, every time, no matter the picture, no matter if it’s one where I’m at my lightest weight, he lifts up his hand, points his finger, and says, “Mama.”My sweet baby.
He doesn’t see the flabbier arms, the more rounded belly. He doesn’t see the layers that have been added to his Mama’s bodyover time.
All he sees is his mama.Every time.

WAVES OF EMOTIONS
We are back in Newport. We got in yesterday. I had a phone interview at noon and needed someone to watch Ishu while I hopped on the call since Ankur was at work. On the drive over, I kept thinking how happy I will be when I’m not constantly in my car, back and forthSHARE THIS:

OUR CHUBBY CHEEKS
Growing up, aunties would always pinch my cheeks. “Gol matol,” they’d say. Which meant, “chubby cheeks.” I’ve always had them. Even at the height of my “skinniness,” when I was eating lettuce and soy sauce for lunch, my cheeks were always there. And when people commented on them constantly, it became an insecurity of mine.SHARE THIS:
