Joining the online testing brigade is Michigan Language Assessment, a partnership between the University of Michigan and Cambridge Assessment English, which has joined up with Prometric, so its English proficiency tests can be taken almost anywhere at any time. Prometric offers a secure testing network through its web-based platform, ProProctor. “The partnership with Prometric is IS COVID BREAKING THE CHAINS? The fact that Eurocentres has gone into a voluntary arrangement, not exactly a liquidation but a way of protecting creditors’ money while a company continues to trade should, perhaps, not come as a surprise. Joining the online testing brigade is Michigan Language Assessment, a partnership between the University of Michigan and Cambridge Assessment English, which has joined up with Prometric, so its English proficiency tests can be taken almost anywhere at any time. HAMISH CHALMERS: TRUSTING THE EVIDENCE Hamish Chalmers is course director of the MSc in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition in the Department of Education at the University of Oxford. He is also Vice-Chair of NALDIC (The National Association for Language Development in the Curriculum). He was a primary school teacher prior to moving into academia, most recently EMPATHY, NOT SYMPATHY Empathy – what it is and what it’s not. For Goleman (2011), empathy is, ‘the capacity to understand the other’s predicament and to feel with them but also to spontaneously want to take action to help them’. While sympathy is an appropriate and acceptable acknowledgement of suffering, it doesn’t go quite far enough.__
