Who What When Where centers around a photographic series of the same name by internationally acclaimed Syracuse-based artist Carrie Mae Weems. This seminal work, first exhibited in 1998 in Weems’ solo exhibition at the Everson, features four large format photographs printed on canvas, each combining text with a single image that references one of the foundational elements of narrative. EVERSON MUSEUM :: PAST EXHIBITIONS Named after Yoko Ono’s 1963 Earth Piece, a score that invites the reader to “Listen to the sound of the earth turning,” this exhibition examines artists who have combined clay and ceramics with performance art, photography, conceptual art, and even land art.Far from being used as “just another material,” clay comes freighted with millennia of associations with material culture. EVERSON MUSEUM :: OBJECT OF THE WEEK: TILES BY THE MUELLER The Mueller Mosaic Company was one of several tile manufacturers located in Trenton, New Jersey in the early twentieth century. Trenton became a center for pottery production beginning in the mid-nineteenth century and by 1900, nearly fifty factories were located in the city. Herman Carl Mueller founded the Mueller Mosaic Company in 1908, taking over a production plant previously EVERSON MUSEUM :: OBJECT OF THE WEEK: VASE BY NILOAK The Eagle Pottery Company of Benton, Arkansas produced Niloak Pottery in the first few decades of the twentieth century. Eagle Pottery grew out of Hyten Brothers Pottery, which formed in 1895 through a partnership between Charles Hyten and several of his brothers. In 1901, Hyten formed a new partnership with Alfred Warren and renamed his business the Eagle Pottery Company. Who What When Where centers around a photographic series of the same name by internationally acclaimed Syracuse-based artist Carrie Mae Weems. This seminal work, first exhibited in 1998 in Weems’ solo exhibition at the Everson, features four large format photographs printed on canvas, each combining text with a single image that references one of the foundational elements of narrative.
