These tests can tell us when a woman is getting close to menopause; a sustained high level of FSH in the blood or urine, along with a lack of a period, is often used to confirm menopause, and AMH levels are strongly tied to time until menopause. THE TRUTH ABOUT “MINI IVF” AND EGG FREEZING Many people researching IVF and egg freezing ask about low-dose, minimal stimulation, and “natural” protocols (medication methods). Extend Fertility doesn’t routinely recommend mini IVF, because studies have shown that it’s significantly less effective and efficient. Keep reading to understand what mini IVF is, and how we approach IVF and egg freezing stimulation. HOW MANY EGGS SHOULD I FREEZE? How many eggs to freeze also depends on how many children you might want later. One way to calculate this is using this egg freezing counseling tool, developed by that aforementioned Brigham & Women’s research team. This tool gives you your chances of having one, two, or three babies, based on your age and how many eggs you’ve frozen. This model is groundbreaking because it is the first to predict egg freezing success rates based on maternal age by individual year—important, since doctors know that fertility changes drastically throughout a woman’s 30s—and to incorporate the chance of creating a genetically healthy embryo, which decreases as a woman gets older. CAN FOOD IMPROVE FEMALE EGG QUALITY? The answer, unfortunately, is none. There’s no perfect “egg freezing diet.”. THE TOP 6 FACTORS THAT AFFECT A WOMAN’S FERTILITY You may not be looking to get pregnant right now, but it’s important to understand what can affect your success if you do decide you want to start a family—and what you can do now to prepare.. 1. Age. If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a million times: the most important factor in fertility is age.Women are born with all the eggs they’ll ever have, and as we age, the quantityHOW OVULATION WORKS
Your ovaries take turns, but they don’t play fair. Most women have two ovaries, one on the right and one on the left. During the first week or so after your period begins, both ovaries are hard at work growing follicles that could become mature eggs. However, around day 7, one egg becomes the dominant egg—let’s call her the Queen Egg—and the other follicles in both ovaries take a load WHAT REALLY AFFECTS YOUR AMH LEVELS, ACCORDING TO OUR Some of our latest research explores the impact of common lifestyle factors—namely, exercise, caffeine intake, smoking, and drug use—on anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) levels. AMH is a hormone produced by the ovarian follicles, and your level is an indicator of how many eggs you have left (your egg count or ovarian reserve). WHAT CAN OVARIAN RESERVE TESTING REALLY TELL US? So-called “fertility tests” do exist; they’re more formally—and in a crucial way, as we’ll see in moment, more precisely—known as ovarian reserve tests. But as recent studies demonstrate, and most reproductive endocrinologists understand, ovarian reserve tests, while important for many reasons, can’t accurately predict your chance of getting pregnant, because they onlytell one
WHAT YOUR AMH LEVEL REALLY MEANS If you’ve ever looked into getting fertility testing, you might be familiar with AMH. AMH, or anti-Müllerian hormone, is a hormone secreted by the ovarian follicles, so the higher your level, the more follicles (potential eggs) you’re expected to have. THE TRUTH ABOUT MALE FERTILITY DECLINE Male fertility vs. female fertility. Women are born with all the eggs they’ll ever have, known as their egg count or “ovarian reserve.” As women age, they have fewer eggs remaining in their ovarian reserve (they lose about 1,000 eggs each month).Additionally, the eggs that remain are more likely to contain DNA that’s been naturally damaged over time—and that damage can prevent them THE TRUTH ABOUT “MINI IVF” AND EGG FREEZING Many people researching IVF and egg freezing ask about low-dose, minimal stimulation, and “natural” protocols (medication methods). CAN FOOD IMPROVE FEMALE EGG QUALITY? Remember: egg quality refers to whether an egg is genetically normal or abnormal. The primary reason that egg quality declines is age.As you age, your body—and therefore your eggs—are exposed to fevers, infections, stress, hangovers, toxins, and all manner of molecular unpleasantness (like free radicals) that cause them harm. WHY DO WOMEN FREEZE THEIR EGGS? “The biggest outcome is that I’m no longer in a rush to find a committed partner. I feel a tremendous amount of relationship relaxation, and that definitely increases the potential that I will find a healthy relationship.” This website stores cookies on your computer. Around 10% of people with uteruses experience endometriosis, a condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus (often on the fallopian tubes and ovaries)..
Because uterine tissue is designed to grow, bleed, and break down during each menstrual cycle, this extra tissue does too. That can cause heavy, painful periods, the formation of ovarian cysts, and scarring inside the pelvis, which may lead to infertility..
Many who suffer from endo see 7+ physicians before getting a diagnosis and treatment. Endometriosis Awareness Month is dedicated to increasing public knowledge about & self-advocacy around endometriosis. Head over to our blog (link in bio) to learn more!* 1

The situation surrounding the #COVID19 pandemic has changed quickly. We’ve done our best to support our patients’ goals while keepingeveryone safe.
.
This week, the @americansocietyforreprodmed has recommended the suspension of all fertility treatment cycles, in light of a lack of data about COVID-19’s effect on pregnancy as well as the more general directive to limit social interaction and preserve healthcareresources.
.
As of today, March 20, we'll be postponing all new cycles until the global health situation is clearer. We know this news may be heartbreaking for those who have been preparing for their cycles, and we truly empathize. 💜.
If you're already cycling, we're following all @CDCgov guidelines to keep you healthy in our office. We're also offering consultations via Skype or phone, if you hope to use this time to explore your fertilityoptions.

We'd also like to thank all the doctors and residents—in NYC and beyond—who are working so hard to treat the many diagnosed with #COVID19.
