To be successful with this spray be sure to do the I LOVE BERRIED TREASURE RED STRAWBERRY Name: Frageria ananassa aka Berried Treasure Red Strawberry from Proven Winners Type of Plant: This is a perennial strawberry that flowers repeatedly and continually forms tasty fruit. Hardy from zone 4 through 9, a plant for full sun. Why I Love/Hate this plant: The Proven Winners folks sent me this as a test plant last summer and I absolutely loved it all season. WHY DOESN’T MY ENDLESS SUMMER HYDRANGEA BLOOM Plant the hydrangea here unless the sun bakes this space in the summer. Hydrangeas appreciate afternoon shade. You can try protecting those stems during the winter by building a cage around the plant out of stakes and chicken wire and filling it with hay or dried leaves. Put a piece of plastic over the top of this structure, but not on thesides.

Sure, I have the usual assortment of snow shovels, ladders, fertilizers and other garden products. There is a rack of boots, some brooms and the garbage cansnormal garage stuff. But from December through April, my garage is also packed with plants. There are I LOVE PIERIS JAPONICA ‘DOROTHY WYCOFF’ Name: Pieris japonica ‘Dorothy Wycoff’ aka Dorothy Wycoff Andromeda Type of Plant: A shrub for shade and part shade that flowers in early spring. Native to Japan and Eastern China, hardy in USD Zones 5 to 8. Why I Love/Hate this plant: I love Pieris japonica as long as it’s planted in the right location. This is a great plant for shade and part shade, but since most varieties grow 6 feet NATIVE GROUNDCOVER FOR WET AREAS It forms a weed smothering mat about four inches tall. This is a plant that is perfect for under shrubs and in rain gardens. It spreads by rhizomes but isn’t overly aggressive. A Word to the Wise: Although this plant will tolerate full sun, it isn’t for hot, sunny places that are dry. If you have a sunny area that remains moist it will do HOMEMADE RABBIT REPELLENT This is a repellent to spray on plants to keep rabbits from eating them. It is only for ornamental plants, not for edibles. (Do not use this on your vegetables or fruits.) Rabbits are herbivores - they are vegans. They don't eat animal products. Therefore a repellent made of egg, milk or blood keep I LOVE THE ENCHANTRESS HYDRANGEA Imagine: You love flowers and the bigger and bolder they are, the happier they make you. Yet your outdoor living space is quite shady, so you need plants that will thrive in with only four hours of direct sun. Thankfully, you’ve discovered the Enchantress hydrangea. She caught your attention the mom I LOVE EUPHORBIA DIAMOND MOUNTAIN It’s a lovely, fine texture that will weave among and soften larger, bolder flowers and foliage. This Euphorbia grows between 24 and 36 inches tall and wide. You’ll see larger growth in the ground or in very large pots. Plant in full sun. This is a drought and heattolerant plant.
I LOVE PRUNUS LAUROCERASUS 'OTTO LUYKEN' Name: Prunus laurocerasus ‘Otto Luyken’ aka Otto Luyken cherry laurel or English laurel. Type of Plant: A low-growing, broadleaf evergreen shrub that is hardy in zones 6 to 9. This plant grows well in sun and part-shade. Why I love this: The lush, dark green foliage and shade tolerance is at the top of the list of reasons to love thisplant.
PROBLEMS WITH PETUNIAS Problems with Petunias. Petunias form blooms at the end of their stalks so continual clipping is necessary to keep them flower-filled all summer. I was signing books at a local bookstore when a woman walked in with the ugliest hanging basket I’ve ever seen. Stringy, yard-long stems holding yellowing leaves cascaded over the rim of thepot.
WHY ISN'T MY BLUE HYDRANGEA FLOWERING? If the buds are swelling in the early spring, and the temperature drops into the 20’s, they are also killed. And if the temperatures go below zero fahrenheit at any time, your mophead and lacecap hydrangeas won’t flower the following year. The winter of 2015 and 2016 was a “hydrangea flower killing winter” because of twothings.
