I figured that they had watered it quite a bit not to long PEONY ROOT - UP OR DOWN?? - GARDEN STEW Cheryl, The tapered end (the one on the left side of the picture) is the end to plant down. The little white specks are the new buds getting ready to put out growth. Plant that end up with the soil about level with the buds, then cover the "crown" with a mulch to CARE OF HANGING MILLION BELLS-WILTING ALREADY Allow the top of the soil to dry before watering again. If your plant is wilting even though the soil is still damp you likely have a root rot problem. Self-cleaning, no deadheading necessary. It should have at least a half day of full sun, regular watering and routine fertilization to stay in bloom all summer. Cross vine ( bignonia capreolata) which has lovely reddish trumpet shaped flowers off and on all season, and is evergreen here in 8b Texas, is what I'd recommend. I don't like to use any kind of poison in my yard but I saw a hornet crawl in the nose hole of one of the black cast iron horse heads and, sure enough, it's building a nest. However we were just visiting with one of the farmers and learned that each year that you plant sets from the last years crop, over 3 to 4 years later your potatoes will get smaller. I bought two large hanging baskets of million bells on Monday and today the leaves are already looking wilted! Yeah, it's a Hollyhock, I bought the root at one of the garden centers 4-5 years ago and since it has never bloomed I don't have any seeds. I think I remember the package info stating that it was a 2nd yr root so it would bloom the next summer but didn't. TOP MY ONIONS TO FORCE BETTER BULB FORMATION? No, I don't. Bags came in a package deal along with garlic and shallots also, no varieties listed. Planted excess yellows for green onions (at 2 inches deep so they wouldn't "bulb), will come back every year. Others were planted just deep enough to barely cover the bulblets and those are the eatin' ones that produce. STEM HAS "LEOPARD LIKE",..MARKINGS?. In the past six years i have only come across this plant twice in my garden,..i know the picture below shows the plant in its infancy,..but its the stem that may throw light on just what it is,..it has a "Leopard Like" markings,..when it matures the leaves are similar to "Cleome hassleriana,(Spider Plant),..the difference of course is thestem.
WHAT DO I FEED A ROBIN IN THE WINTER? Location: WestTennessee. You can go a lot of ways on a suet cake recipe. I use generic lard, old fashioned oatmeal and peanut butter. Heat the lard and put the other stuff in it.I dump mixed birdseed into this. I then use any old dry cereals I have in it, leftover fruit,nuts etc.
