BIRL - GENE KOGAN
Birl . The Birl is an electronic wind instrument which encases a custom circuit with a set of finger pressure sensors, along with a breath pressure and embouchure sensor on the mouthpiece. The device is capable of learning custom sensor-to-synthesis mapping using a neural network and custom training application written in openFrameworks. EXPERIMENTS WITH STYLE TRANSFER Experiments with style transfer . Style transfer is the technique of recomposing images in the style of other images. These were mostly created using Justin Johnson’s code based on the paper by Gatys, Ecker, and Bethge demonstrating a method for restyling images using convolutional neural networks. Instructions here, and more details here.A gallery with all of these and more style PROCESSING SHADER EXAMPLES Processing shader examples . A collection of GLSL shaders used in Processing, ranging from generic shaders like blur/contrast to more experimental variants.It is a personal collection of shaders used in many works and a tutorial on how to use shaders within Processing. 2D AND 3D PERLIN NOISE 2D and 3D Perlin noise. A lot of times we need smooth continuous behavior from a variable in not just one but two dimensions. For example, if you are rendering clouds, you might want to have smooth color gradations in both the X and Y directions. VISUALIZING MY FIELD RECORDINGS I am inclined towards field recording by interests in recollection and documentation through sound, i.e. "phonography", sound ecology (e.g. R. Murray Schafer, Hildegard Westerkamp), and sound art/musique concrète (e.g. Michel Chion, Chris Watson, Francisco López).Like the latter two, I am interested in sound design, finding complementary and contrasting sounds from the real world, and usingECOHACKER-BUILD

Book of Genesis State of the union addresses by George W. Bush, 2001-2008 War & Peace by Leo Tolstoy Some more personal texts were generated trained on my Gmail and on my personal journal. LISTENING TO THE OCEAN Listening to the ocean . Listening to the Ocean on a Shore of Gypsum Sand is a collaboration with Phillip Stearns and Dan Tesene investigating the sonic properties of real and imagined seashells. The seashells are algorithmically designed in custom software written in Processing and fabricated by printing and binding thin layers ofgypsum powder.
