6" QUILT BLOCKS
A 6" quilt block is a lot like Goldilocksnot too bignot too smallbut just right—in fact, you'll find more patterns for this block-size than any other on the website. Note how the lines of the quilt pattern fool your eye into thinking there are pieced curves. The rest are a USING YOUR DOMESTIC SEWING MACHINE FOR QUILTING When we use our domestic sewing machine for quilting it runs pretty near constantly. It’s not like piecing where we sew a little, press a little, and trim a little. When we are in the quilting “zone”, the pedal will be to the metal for the entire bobbin. The bobbin runs out, we quick wind another and off to quilting again. WHEN WAS MY QUILT MADE AND WHAT IS IT WORTH... With that valuation, you can properly insure the quilts, if you so desire. Should any repair or restoration work need doing, they can also direct you on that, especially with regards to maintaining the value of the patchwork. LOUISIANA QUILT BLOCK INSTRUCTIONS: 4", 6", 7" AND 8" FINISHED Press. Trim the SA to 1/4" on both short, exposed edges of #5. A trimmed #5 from the fabric side (left) and from the printed side (right). From here on out, the #6, #7 ad #8 patches are sewn and trimmed exactly as #2, #3 and #4 were. Again, when you add #8 you canchain piece.
BEARS PAW QUILT BLOCK PATTERN: INSTRUCTIONS IN 3 SIZES Step 2: Assemble the corner units for a Bear's Paw quilt block. Start by constructing the HST units. Make the back of each light #4 patch with a diagonal line between both pairs of corners. Layer a #4 with a #3 square, right sides together. With your favorite quarter inch foot installed on your sewing machine, stitch a quarter inch away from MY "OH MY GOSH" QUILT I pieced this quilt right after I had made The Birthday Quilt.The Civil War Reproduction fabrics I'd pulled were still singing for me, and it didn't seem like I had gotten making teeny-weeny nine patch quilt blocks out of my system yet. WHAT SEWING MACHINE NEEDLE SIZES MEAN The Sizing Systems. The sizes are found on the front of the packaging (circled in red to the right). That first number is the Number Metric (shown as NM). This system was set up in the 1940's to standardize needle sizes. It is simply the diameter of the needle shaft in millimeters multiplied by 100 to get rid of the pesky decimal places. MORE THAN 70 FREE 12 INCH QUILT BLOCK PATTERNS FOR YOU TO TRY! Out of all the 12 inch quilt block patterns shared here, the Carolina Lily is the only one whose patches are cut completely with templates (which are free and downloadable, of course). OKLAHOMA TWISTER QUILT BLOCK TUTORIAL IN 3 SIZES: 6", 9 The Oklahoma Twister quilt block with its open, modern feel is easy to construct when you make half square triangles 8-at-a-time. Tutorial includes: step-by-step illustrated instructions, cutting charts for 2 or 3 fabric blocks, layout ideas and downloadable coloring page. SUSANNAH QUILT BLOCK: 4", 6", 8" AND 12" FINISHED Press the patches flat, as sewn, to set the seam. Next, trim away the excess between the seam line and the outside corner. Leave a 1/4" SA (white arrow.) Complete this step by pressing the patches toward the corners. Add the two remaining #2s to the remaining pair of opposite sides in the same manner. An inspection of the broken end of the thread shows that one of the thread strands have broken and bunched up while remaining strands stayed threaded through the needle for a short time before breaking. Lay out the pieced and cut patches into rows. You can see that even though the design is drawn on a 5x5 grid, the Handy Andy block is assembled as an uneven 9 patch. Stitch the units into rows. With RST, add the third #2, pressing after it's stitched. Add the fourth #2. This is the last full seam. Sewing the last #4 to the block. After pressing, your Bright Hopes quilt block looks like STARTING OR STOPPING A LINE OF MACHINE QUILTING STITCHES How to Start and Stop a Line of Stitches. If you are free motion quilting, you will move the quilt sandwich very slowly to create the micro stitches. If you are quilting with a walking foot and the feed dogs are up, set your stitch length to 0.5. The machine will create the proper stitch length. Hand Knotting Thread Tails.
