COVID-19: A MOMENT OF IMPORTANCE FOR GENOMICS Genomics has played an important role in the battle against COVID-19. Scientists around the world have brought forward a herculean effort to manage the outbreak and bring an end to the pandemic. Early sequencing of the virus and data sharing has led to improved surveillance, tracking transmission of the virus and its variants, in real-time. THE RIGHT DRUG, AT THE RIGHT DOSE, TO THE Based on this information, Dr. Bruce Carelton, a clinical pharmacologist at the University of British Columbia (UBC), searched for an alternative treatment that would be more likely to preserve hearing. He found a less toxic drug which promised to be as effective to treat Rory’s cancer, but presented less chance of causing hearingimpairment.
