They had about 4 weeks of basic training including physical training, learning military customs, and care of military equipment and uniforms. HEROES AMONG US: THE KAZUO MASUDA STORY Celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with the premiere of the second episode in our series, Heroes Among Us: Stories of Courage, Patriotism & Sacrifice on Saturday, May 1 at 12:00 PM PDT. This episode will share the story of Nisei soldier, Kazuo Masuda (442nd RCT), who was killed in action in Italy in July 1944. Though his family experienced anti-Asian discrimination in the post-war era, his legacy and impact would be greatly felt through the signing of the Civil Liberties Act by President Reagan.
