Spending the Day in Tremont Tremont Institute is located inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park so we welcome park visitors to hike the trails in the area and visit our gift store any time the park is open. We would love for you to join us for a residential program to experience the benefits of GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS INSTITUTE AT TREMONT PROGRAM Registration is now open for Tremont Institute's 2020 summer and adult programs! We are thrilled to offer an outstanding schedule of programs designed for all ages to live and learn in Great Smoky MountainsNational Park.
WEEKLY WONDER
Weekly Wonder is a new virtual program designed t o be accessible for learners of all ages —whether from the park or the parking lot. No expensive gear, no need to travel to distant wild places, and no specialized skills or experience necessary! Your classroom just needs you and your willingness to be curious, to pay attention to the world CREATE YOUR OWN NATURE JOURNAL Collect as many tree seeds, nuts, and seed pods as you can find in the surrounding outdoors. As you examine each item up close and make observations, record them in your journal. Don’t worry if you’re unable to collect any—our artist Luke has included the artifacts he used for his own nature journal. Practice with the items pictured for FULL - TEEN HIGH ADVENTURE - TREMONT INSTITUTE Venture into the heart of the Great Smoky Mountain backcountry, spending 7 days and 6 nights among a community of teenage outdoor enthusiasts like you! MIDDLE PRONG TRAIL: A WALK THROUGH TIME This tributary together with another, Thunderhead Prong, join to form the Middle Prong of the Little River, visible off the righthand side of the bridge. The ridge separating the two tributaries is named for Ann Davis who helped to found the park movement in the 1920s. Tremont offers an in-depth summer learning experience that fosters an WHY WE ARE CHANGING “CITIZEN SCIENCE” TO “COMMUNITY Monarch tagging is one of the best-known examples of “citizen science.” Put simply, citizen science is a way for researchers to broaden their reach and capacity for data collection and observation. In practice, however, the power of this collaboration extends beyond simply crowd-sourcing information to input into databases. In 2019, we celebrated our 50th anniversary, and, boy, did we have much to celebrate. As this annual report reflects, our programs were strong and successful and out of that strong legacy were born bold plans for the next 50 years to come.
