Warrenton, VA. The Warrenton Cemetery began as a family burial ground in the early 19th century then was sold to the Town in 1828. Since then, the cemetery has evolved into an 18 acre walkable timeline with over 8,000 known burial sites including prominent political, military, and cultural figures. SOLDIERS' NATIONAL CEMETERY Soldiers’ National Cemetery. Across from the battlefield visitor center, this peaceful knoll overlooking the town is where Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address in 1863. The cemetery came about of necessity. Thousands of soldiers who died at Gettysburg had been hastily buried in shallow graves in scattered fields, thereawaiting

MAYFIELD EARTHWORK FORT Mayfield Earthwork Fort occupies eleven acres of ground just outside of downtown Manassas. Its Civil War history begins in the spring of 1861 when the Confederate Army arrived and built an earthwork fort here, one of 12 in the area meant to protect the railroad junction. Excavations at the Gilmore Farm have focused on two areas: the soils below the cabin and the yard. The excavations carried out below the cabin floor revealed a dense deposit of small items (such as glass beads, sewing and safety pins, and buttons) that likely fell between the cracks in the floor. MOSBY HERITAGE AREA ASSOCIATION The c.1801 Caleb Rector House was the site of the formation of the 43rd Virginia Cavalry, Mosby's Rangers, in 1863. It also was a Civil War hospital and the site of two separate encampments of JEB Stuart in June 1863 during the Battle of Upperville. MILLER SCHOOL OF ALBEMARLE The architectural focal point of the campus, Old Main, was begun in 1876. It was designed by architects Albert Lybrock and D. Wiley Anderson of Richmond, and NATIONAL SHRINE OF ST. ELIZABETH ANN SETON Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton was the first native-born citizen of the USA to be canonized or made a Catholic Saint. Liberia House. Constructed in 1825, Liberia was the home of William Weir and his wife, Harriet Bladen Mitchell Weir. Built largely by enslaved laborers, this two-story brick house is the one of the few remaining early nineteenth century structures in Manassas. Liberia’s Civil War history is well documented in the historical record. CEDAR MOUNTAIN BATTLEFIELD The Civil War Preservation Trust has created self-guided long and short loop trails with interpretive signage. CHAPMAN'S MILL/BEVERLY MILL Chapman's Mill, or as it is frequently called, Beverley's Mill, was believed to be the tallest stacked stone building in the United States and was built in 1742 by Jonathan and Nathaniel Chapman in Thoroughfare Gap on the Prince William-Fauquier County line.
