Among the most anticipated new offerings is the Hardy Ultralite LL rod. This is the same rod that Hardy’s head designer Howard Croston used to win the 2020 FIPS World Championship. Euro-nymphing is the name of the game in the World Championships, and that’s exactly what the Ultralite LL was REVIEW: REDINGTON HYDROGEN FLY ROD The Hydrogen is a medium-fast rod that’s suitable for casting dry flies, high-sticking for nymphs and swinging smaller streamers. The only reason the National Park Service didn’t use 2020 data is because, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, a limited number of the park’s entrances were open tovisitors last year.

Matthews says the refuge offers the perfect habitat for the beefy carp — specimens well over 30 pounds are common, and, while they aren’t exactly a sought-after angling target, there is a cult following of fly fishers who wander the shores of Lake Walcott in hopes of hooking up with a giant carp and testing their backing knots. REVIEW: REDINGTON TRACE FLY ROD The TRACE, much like the Hydrogen, is supposed to serve as Redington’s do-it-all fly rod, capable of handling any and all trout situations. The TRACE has a medium-fast action that slows up nicely when throwing at distance. The rod has plenty of power in the blank, which helps to both turn over heavy rigs and move big fish. REVIEW: KORKERS RIVER OPS WADING BOOTS I’ve been wearing Korkers boots for a while now — long enough that I’m not sure when I bought my first pair. Wading boots, for all their importance, lack the sex appeal of rods, waders, or reels. But since that first set of boots, I’ve watched Korkers engage in a consistent effort to bring new, innovative, interesting products tomarket.

WHY—AND HOW MUCH—YOU SHOULD TIP YOUR FISHING GUIDE It is, after all, the service industry. And because it’s the service industry, tipping is customary. But, unlike the Nexus, the Kairos is a significant departure from the ROCKY MOUNTAIN FLY FISHING ROAD TRIP: GEARING UP Fly fishing. Road trip. Montana. Sounds pretty reasonable, right?
