It’s been a while since our last full Jazz Club column (almost two years, to be exact). We’ve highlighted some great jazz albums in the meantime, but there’s something to be said about a regular recap of the latest and greatest from the background. So in the framework of our new model YAUTJA – THE LURCH – HEAVY BLOG IS HEAVY The end result of all of this is an album that’s heavy like only Yautja can make something heavy. It’s wild without being scattered, ruthless without overstaying its welcome, impactful without wearing you out. To start with the basics, Oryx is a heavy-as-all-come-out blackened sludge trio. Iowa is dark, heavy and honest. The riffs on the album are simple and catchy. Corey Taylor’s vocals and lyrics are just out of this world and Joey Jordison drumming style just matches it all to perfection.HEAVY BLOG IS HEAVY

Nobody has really bothered to scribble about this topic, even though it is a pretty well known and widely acknowledged phenomenon, so Happy Metal Guy takes it upon himself to re-inform the masses why we all know worshiping Satan is for losers! THE TOP 10 INSTRUMENTALS OF THE LAST 10 YEARS The art of the instrumental is a delicate one. Taking away the vocals is a surprisingly big step, whereas before there was a ‘wall’ that would divert the focus away from the instruments a little, now every note and flourish is on display at the forefront for all to see.MATT MACLENNAN
