ABOUT NUFFIELD PRIMARY HISTORY / HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION The Nuffield Primary History project developed a range of approaches and techniques for doing history with children, between and 1991 and 2009. The resources produced by the project are all real lessons which have been taught by real teachers. They include guidance on teaching and examples of children's work. May is Local History Month and time to celebrate the local heritage that is all around us and time to get out and find out more. It was led by Ian Dawson with a focus on the fifteenth century and late Middle Ages.. This article aims to cover two separate but related aspects. WHAT MAKES GOOD PRIMARY HISTORY? / HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION Dr. Lomas stressed the popularity of history in primary schools - many children are passionate about the subject. He said that one of the most important roles of good primary history was to address and correct pupils misconceptions about the past. For example, some children seem to believe that the Roman occupation lasted about a week; and the same for the Saxon and Viking periods. The resources produced by the project are all real lessons which have been taught by real teachers. They include guidance on teaching and examples of children's work. Firstly, using the evidence of Quality Mark visits to primary schools, Bev Forrest identifies and explains some of the best practice observedon these visits.
HISTORICAL FICTION LIST / SECONDARY / HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION The Historical Association Secondary Committee have put together a Historical Fiction list for teachers to use with their students. It is designed to help history teachers to inspire students of all ages in secondary school to read historical fiction for pleasure and also to get better at doing history. SUBJECT LEADER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME / SECONDARY Subject Leader Development Programme. The Historical Association is pleased to announce a brand new online course for developing subject leadership in history teaching. Led by a team of 6 experienced subject leaders, including Hugh Richards, Sharon Aninakwa, Ruth Lingard, David Hibbert, Elizabeth Carr and Catherine Priggs, this course will VIKING BURIAL MOUND / HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION In this simulation of an excavation, the children investigate a past event and imaginatively reconstruct what happened, on the basis of the evidence uncovered.
