Applying IBI’s estimation approach, about one in four of these cases will be an employed person with access to employer-sponsored or state-mandated disability leavebenefits.
POOR HEALTH COSTS US EMPLOYERS $530 BILLION US employers paid nearly $880 billion in health care benefits for employees and dependents. However, illness-related lost productivity costs them another $530 billion per year, per a new report from the Integrated Benefits Institute (IBI), a nonprofit health and productivity research organization. That amounts to 60 cents for every dollar employers spend on health care benefits. IMPACTS OF CO-WORKERS’ LEAVES The most common consequences were personal, such as increased stress or difficulty completing one’s own work. More than half of employees who experienced a co-worker’s extended absence reported that staff took on the absent employee's responsibilities. One in three reported that staff put in more overtime or spent more time at work than usual. PAID FAMILY LEAVE: OUTCOMES, MEASURES AND BENCHMARKING Paid parental leave is increasing in prevalence and adoption nationwide with employers implementing corporate policies in the absence of a federal policy. IBI BENCHMARKING ANALYTICS: HOW HAS COVID-19 CHANGED As of August 17, 2020, the United States had experienced more than 5 million confirmed cases of COVID-19. Applying IBI’s estimation approach, about one in four of these cases will be an employed person with access to employer-sponsored or state-mandated disability leavebenefits.
POOR HEALTH COSTS US EMPLOYERS $530 BILLION US employers paid nearly $880 billion in health care benefits for employees and dependents. However, illness-related lost productivity costs them another $530 billion per year, per a new report from the Integrated Benefits Institute (IBI), a nonprofit health and productivity research organization. That amounts to 60 cents for every dollar employers spend on health care benefits. IMPACTS OF CO-WORKERS’ LEAVES The most common consequences were personal, such as increased stress or difficulty completing one’s own work. More than half of employees who experienced a co-worker’s extended absence reported that staff took on the absent employee's responsibilities. One in three reported that staff put in more overtime or spent more time at work than usual.
