The Commission on New Minerals, Nomenclature and Classification (CNMNC) of the International Mineralogical Association (IMA) was formed in July 2006 by a merger between the Commission on New Minerals and Mineral Names (CNMMN) and the Commission on Classification of Minerals, at the request of both commissions.: ABOUT IMA
Founded in 1958, the IMA is the world's largest organization promoting mineralogy, one of the oldest branches of science. 38 national mineralogical societies or groups are members of IMA. The Commission on New Minerals, Nomenclature and Classification (CNMNC) of the International Mineralogical Association (IMA) was formed in July 2006 by a merger between the Commission on New Minerals and Mineral Names (CNMMN) and the Commission on Classification of Minerals, at the request of both commissions.: CNMNC
The IMA-CNMMN has published many official reports in several mineralogical journals over the past twenty-five years, which contain the rules and regulations about all aspects of the nomenclature of minerals and a number of mineral groups. CAM website CAM creation. IMA-CAM was initiated around 1979, after the creation of the International Council for Applied Mineralogy (ICAM).
