The roots of systemic racism in our food and farm system are deep, and they stretch as far back as the arrival of European colonists. The false premises of discovery and European rightful ownership resulted in the forced removal of Indigenous people from their land — land which they had cared for, tended, and relied upon for millennia.FIGHT FOR $15

EVERYDAY PEOPLE ARE A POWERFUL FORCE FOR JUSTICE. SINCE 1975, IOWA CCI HAS ORGANIZED TO BUILD THE POWER OF EVERYDAY PEOPLE IN IOWA’S RURAL TOWNS AND BIG CITIES. Join as an Iowa CCI member! Iowa CCI members create change through grassroots organizing, educating, and mobilizing on issues that impact our communities the most. Together, we work to put people and planet first by stopping factory farms, ending racist policing and anti-immigrant legislation, and winning bold action on climate change, healthcare, and clean waterfor everyone.
No matter where we come from, where we live, or what we look like, we need policies and an economy that serve the public good, not corporations and the wealthy few who rig the rules in their favor. WHEN WE SAY “EVERYDAY PEOPLE,” we mean all of us who are hurt by corporations and the wealthy few: poor people, working-class people, professionals, small business owners, family farmers, and unemployed people. We mean Black, White, Latinx, Asian, and Native people. We mean students, retired people, and people with disabilities. We mean women, men, transgender and gender non-conforming people. We mean straight, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer people. We mean citizens and immigrants, nativeand new Iowans.
WE’RE A STATEWIDE GROUP OF IOWANS WHO BELIEVE THAT: POLICYMAKING IS THE PEOPLE’S BUSINESS. It shouldn’t be done behind closed doors by politicians and corporate donors who rig the rules intheir favor.
THE PEOPLE MOST DIRECTLY IMPACTED BY AN ISSUE SHOULD BE IN THE DRIVER’S SEAT. We should be the ones making decisions, crafting solutions, and taking action. WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER. Our health and well-being is connected, and we can accomplish more together than we can alone. In short, we believe democracy should work for all of us, no exceptions. To make the changes that we want to see for ourselves, our loved ones, and our communities, we need to work together.STAY CONNECTED
