Setting up a DMZ. A demilitarized zone or DMZ allows your servers to respond to public IP addresses. The difference between placing a server in a DMZ (orange) and placing directly on the public (red) network is that you can limit traffic into and out of the server. And you use the firewall to limit access so unwanted traffic never gets toyour

The main way to manage IPFire is the web user interface (WUI).By default, it is always available on your internal Green network. If you use Secure Shell (SSH) to make changes in a Linux shell, only start the shell as you connect, do not leave it permanently open. This way an attacker cannot conduct a brute-force attack against IPFire using SSH (although the Guardian add-on does also offer someWIKI.IPFIRE.ORG
The zone configuration allows configuring Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) for bridges. Since it is possible add multiple interfaces to the same bridge, it becomes a danger that loops are being created on the network. STP avoids those by disabling bridge ports when a loop isbeing detected.

Generate an SSL-Certificate manually Introduction. During the Installation, there will be a self-signed SSL-Certificate(v1) generated, based on (in the setup process) specified host name and domain, to enable https-access to the WUI of IPFire via port 444.. If you change the host name and/or domain name afterwards, then the SSL-Certificate has to be rebuilt, otherwise the browser will not onlyWWW.IPFIRE.ORG
