We congratulate author and poet Nurit Zarchi, winner of the 2021 Israel Prize in Literature and Poetry. Zarchi's contribution to Israeli literature is beyond measure. A literary diva, she published more than 100 books for children and adults. Her work has been influencing the younger generations of writers in the country for many years, as she insisted on writing truthfully and candidly for children, touching on painful subjects and emotions without filters or embellishments. Whata great choice!
Read more about it in the Jerusalem Post THE ITHL MOURNS THE PASSING OF AUTHOR AND TRANSLATOR YEHOSHUA KENAZ, WHO DIED TODAY, OCT. 12, AT THE AGE OF 83. Kenaz was a prominent literary figure in Israel. His novel “Stealth Individuals” became iconic in contemporary Hebrew literature and Israeli culture. Born in Israel in 1937, Kenaz belonged to the first generation to grow up in the newly-established state and write in Hebrew as a native language. Throughout his career, Kenaz also translated French novels and poetry into Hebrew and edited literary publications. In 1997, he won the Bialik Prize for Literature. His books were translated into multiple languages and some of them were adapted for the cinema and theater. Kenaz was a private person and for many years refrained from giving interviews of any kind, but even away from the public eye he was much-loved and influential in the Israeli literary sphere and beyond. He will be missed by many Israelis and his readers all over the world.
