WHERE THE FUTURE IS PRESENT. We provide a platform for emerging artists to discover their unique voice, and a home for established musicians to continue to experimentand grow.

Our Mission
The Jazz Gallery is America’s premier performance venue for emerging artists who challenge convention, take creative risks and lead their field as performers, composers and thinkers. Through residencies, commissions, performances, and exhibitions, we provide a platform for artists to discover their unique voice and a home for established musicians to continue to experiment and grow. At The Jazz Gallery, artists and audiences come together from around the world to explore new creative ideas, collaborate and celebrate jazz as a dynamic art form that reflects our ever-changing world.OUR PROGRAMS
RESIDENCY COMMISSIONS The Jazz Gallery has a strong track record of nurturing compositional talent, having commissioned new work annually since 2002, which grants talented composers and bandleaders the resources to work on large-scale projects that will have enduring and transformative effects on their creative development. We encourage each artist to think outside their standard compositional toolbox and create something they may not otherwise have experimented with.Learn More
MENTOR SERIES
Mentorship has always been a key theme in jazz history. Most of today’s great jazz musicians were raised through informal channels and gained invaluable experience working alongside their heroes. Future generations of great jazz will depend on the continuation of this community-minded mentoring tradition that is, unfortunately, becoming less common as jazz education has become more formalized in conservatory and university settings. Our Mentor Series pairs a veteran of the art form with a younger musician, who then work together performing throughout the North-east at several venues.DEBUT SERIES
Continuing our commitment to supporting young artists, our Debut Series has helped provide a platform artists who have not led groups on our stage, and in many cases within NYC, before. This group of artists reflects the current landscape of the jazz scene in NYC and beyond in terms of nationality, race, and gender, with its diversity indicative of the elasticity and expansive nature of jazz. Each artist brings ongoing creative projects to the stage, and use their dates as opportunities to showcase their work before our eager audiences. The Jazz Gallery was founded in 1995 by Dale Fitzgerald, Roy Hargrove, and Lezlie Harrison. Over the years, we have become a space where artists can experiment, explore, and find their artistic voice. We are an incubator and we have been the safe creative space for so many of the artists who are the mainstay of the jazz scene right now. Our graduates include 6 MacArthur Fellows (Vijay Iyer, Jason Moran, Dafnis Prieto, Miguel Zenon, Tyshawn Sorey, and Mary Halvorson), numerous Doris Duke Artists, countless Grammy nominees+winners, as well as Monk Competition winners. The Jazz Gallery has been _“Where The Future Is Present”_ for the past quarter century and home to all these creative artists. To celebrate our 25th Anniversary, we have planned many special events, we hope you’ll join us throughout 2020 for _The Next 25, Where The Future Is Present!_Learn More
