It is derived from music he wrote for an Icelandic play of the same name. For the CD release on Touch, the music was revised and restructured to make it stand as a work on its own and not simply function as a collection of cues. The music is written for string quartet, piano, organ, glockenspiel and DÍS – JÓHANN JÓHANNSSON The album Dís is based on music written for the Icelandic film of the same (the first film by director Silja Hauksdottir, based on her own novel.) Like the album Englabörn (Touch 2002), which was based on music originally written for the theater, Dís elaborates and expands on themes used in the film. The intention was to create an album NEWS – JÓHANN JÓHANNSSON Deutsche Grammophon is set to release a two-volume retrospective edition of Jóhann’s work. It will incorporate many of his major works, including The Miners’ Hymns, Arrival, Sicario, Orphée, and a previously unissued soundtrack album.. Retrospective I will be issued on April 26th as a deluxe hardcover book edition, with seven albums featuring Jóhannsson’s earlier works. * Facebook

The soundtrack to COPENHAGEN DREAMS features music for string quartet, clarinet, celeste, keyboards and electronics and was recorded with some of Jóhann’s favorite Icelandic musicians.
