JEWISH VALUES AND HERITAGE In 1938, as the Holocaust was unfolding in Europe, the Vocational Service of the Associated Jewish Philanthropies of Boston (now CJP) was founded to assist Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi persecution in Germany. The Vocational Service helped refugees gain skills, find employment, continue careers, and begin to build new lives here in America. For over 80 years, Jewish Vocational Service’s (JVS DISABILITY SERVICES: CONNECTIONS JVS’s Connections program provides one-on-one career counseling, job placement, and volunteer placement services to adults in the Jewish community with a disability. FINANCIAL OPPORTUNITY CENTER JVS’s Financial Opportunity Center (FOC), developed in partnership and with support from the United Way and LISC, offers integrated services ranging from financial education workshops to one-on-one financial coaching and free tax preparation, designed to help low-income individuals achieve economic security.JOB QUALITY
JVS is taking advantage of the tightest job market in a generation, to help our clients play “catch up” and our employer partners to become more competitive by focusing on job quality. Improving job quality is a strategic goal of our agency, seeking to at least double the number of clients placed in a quality job by 2022. This work is informed by learnings from the Aspen Institute’s JobHEALTHCARE PIPELINE
JVS works with many healthcare providers in the Greater Boston area, designing customized programs to fill these vacancies and build career ladders. JVS bridges the gap between a wide range of healthcare providers, including major hospitals and long-term care facilities, and a large range of employees with different skill levels looking to get their foot in the door in careers in healthcare. SUPPORT FOR REFUGEES Together We Rise: Career Development with Boston’s Refugees, is a joint initiative of Jewish Vocational Service and Combined Jewish Philanthropies. Through this program, JVS is reaching out to resettled refugees to help them move from entry-level jobs to family-sustaining careers.
