OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE AND RELATED DISORDERS Obsessive-compulsive disorder or OCD is made up of two different parts: obsessions. compulsions. Obsessions are unwanted thoughts, ideas or urges that are distressing. They may seem very strange or have to do with things you wouldn't normally think about doing. You can't control obsessions and they cause a lot of anxiety or 'badfeelings'.
BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER The diagnosis of a personality disorder must be done carefully. The symptoms need to have lasted for long periods and be stable. Before you accept a diagnosis of BPD, make sure that any other mental illness is treated first (depression, an eating disorder, a substance usedisorder, etc.).
MANAGING SENSORY PREFERENCES Some tips for managing sensory sensitivities: Try out clothing before the activity starts: If your child resists tight clothing, like a swimsuit, look for looser fitting alternatives that still meet the demands of the activity. Some common symptoms of a mental health challenge or disorder are: changes in mood. changes in the way you perceive things. obsessions. fears. feelings of anxiety. Mental health challenges and disorders can happen to anyone. They affect people of all ages, races and social classes. TAMING WORRY DRAGONS Taming Worry Dragons is a creative approach to CBT that is designed to help anxious children learn how to cope with their worries. The approach can be adapted by therapists and parents to match the developmental level and interests of the child involved. The first Taming Worry Dragons manual was published in 1995, and the program isnow used in

At those moments, self-injury may be a less harmful way to deal with their thoughts and feelings. Common types of self injury are: scratching or cutting the skin. burning the skin. biting or severely pinching the skin. self hitting. A person can have one reason or many reasons for self-injuring. ANTIDEPRESSANT/ANTI-ANXIETY MEDICATIONS Venlafaxine is an antidepressant and anti-anxiety medication used in the treatment of depression, generalized anxiety disorder, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder ATTENTION-DEFICIT/HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER The cause of ADHD is not fully understood, but changes in brain chemicals and brain structures are found in people with ADHD. It also seems to run in families, so ADHD may be affected by certain genes. The environment may also play a role. For example, ADHD is seen more often in children of women who smoked cigarettes while pregnant. OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE AND RELATED DISORDERS Obsessive-compulsive disorder or OCD is made up of two different parts: obsessions. compulsions. Obsessions are unwanted thoughts, ideas or urges that are distressing. They may seem very strange or have to do with things you wouldn't normally think about doing. You can't control obsessions and they cause a lot of anxiety or 'badfeelings'.

Somatization is the word we use for the physical (or body) expression of stress and emotions through the mind-body connection. We all somatise. In fact, up to 12% of doctors' visits are for somatic symptoms. Somatic symptoms are very real.
