The brown bear was formerly found over almost the entire northern hemisphere, from Arctic tundra to subtropical environments. Its remarkable adaptability allows the species to live in very different environments: forests, steppes, rugged mountains, deserts and thearctic tundra.

The wolves which re-populated the southwestern Alps since 1990 originate from the Italian Abruzzi. 2015/2016 65 packs and 12 wolf pairs were recorded in the Alps (map on the right, Workshop Report Wolf Alpine Group 2015/2016). The population is increasing andspreading.

HERZLICH WILLKOMMEN
Die Rückkehr der grossen Raubtiere in unser Land ist die letzte Phase der Rettung der einheimischen Wildtiere, deren Bestände und Lebensräume im 19. Jahrhundert durch unkontrollierte Übernutzung an einem Tiefpunkt angelangt waren. Luchs , Wolf und Bär kehren heute aber nicht in eine Wildnis zurück, sondern in eine vom Mensch dominierte Landschaft mit vielfältigen Ansprüchen verschiedener Nutzer. Das kann auch Konflikte auslösen. KORA erforscht die Lebensweise der Raubtiere und überwacht die Entwicklung ihrer Populationen. Wir beobachten auch die Wirkung der Raubtiere in unserer modernen Kulturlandschaft und erarbeiten die Grundlagen für ein konfliktarmes Zusammenleben der grossen Raubtiere mit den Menschen.* KORA
