Her mother, Rangiparewahawaha Leonard died in Rotorua ages 112 years. Her grandfather, Henry Morshead Symons, was an early settler in thisdistrict.

Flax Cutters . Flax was the life-blood of Foxton for more than 100 years. Early ropemakers employed Mãori women to scrape flax leaves. In 1869 Charles Pownall invented a machine to strip the flax which was then washed and dried on fences.FOXTON MURALS

Karl Feodor Sim, alias Carl F. Goldie, spent most of his life in Foxton. He gained notoriety with his forgeries of works by Goldie and other artists. S.S. "Kennedy" stranded on the bar. This mural depicts the "Kennedy" aground on the Manawatu River bar in November 1928. The Coley Bros. Contractors are unloading the ship at low tide using horses and draysto move the cargo.

Flax Cutters . Flax was the life-blood of Foxton for more than 100 years. Early ropemakers employed Mãori women to scrape flax leaves. In 1869 Charles Pownall invented a machine to strip the flax which was then washed and dried on fences.FOXTON MURALS
Railway and Wharf. Foxton's first wharf was a jetty built by T U Cook. It was washed away by a flood but rebuilt. In 1871 it was taken over by the Government and aFOXTON MURALS
Flax Museum . These murals depict the activities on the flax fields around Foxton. The work was hard and conditions were harsh. Many of the early settlers started work in the flax industry before setting up in other businesses or moving inland to newly opened up areas.UNTITLED DOCUMENT
