AUTOMATICALLY RUNNING SUPERVISORD ON STARTUP I really like supervisord for long-running process management. It is Python, so it is easy to install and it is easy to script with tools like Fabric.Lately I’ve been deploying smaller Django/ WSGI sites with Green Unicorn behind Nginx proxied over a Unix socket which makes for a nice little setup on shared hosting and RAM starved VPSes. After installing supervisord with something like sudo USING PROXY MODELS TO CUSTOMIZE THE DJANGO ADMIN Proxy Models were introduced in Django 1.1. The official documentation describes their usage, comparing and contrasting them with Model inheritance. One fact the official documentation does not explicitely state is that django won’t let you register multiple ModelAdmins to the same Model. This is where proxy models can come to the rescue. CRACKING DJANGO PASSWORD HASHES On completion, you can harvest your passwords from hashcat: $ ./hashcat64.bin -m 10000 --show ~/django_hashes.txt. I tested this approach on few different real-world datasets and was able to recover ~10-25% of the hashes in each set within a few hours. In all, I cracked 246 passwords and spent $73 on Google Cloud. DOCUMENTING DJANGO DESIGN SYSTEMS WITH STORYBOOK Documenting Django Design Systems with Storybook. Our clients come to us with a variety of existing internal teams. Sometimes we work with UI designers or brand-focused graphic designers who deliver pixel-perfect mockups. Other times the stakeholders will describe what their goals are, and we’ll be responsible for more of the designprocess.
DJANGO PATTERNS: FAT MODELS AND CACHED_PROPERTY Django. Aug 15, 2017. One of my favorite patterns in Django is the combination of "fat" models and cached_property from django.utils.functional. Fat models are a general MVC concept which encourages pushing logic into methods on your Model layer rather than the Controller ("view" in Django parlance). This has a lot ofbenefits.
LOAD TESTING WITH JMETER: PART 1 The first thing you’ll want to create in your test plan is a Thread Group. Right-click on the “Test Plan” element, select “Add”, then “Threads (Users)”, then select “Thread Group”. Once the element is created, fill in the “Thread Properties” with your settings variables from the “Test Plan” element. USING DJANGO INSIDE THE TORNADO WEB SERVER Inspired by Eric Florenzano’s talk, Using Django in Non-Standard Ways (slides in PDF) at DjangoCon and the announcement of Tornado (tornadoweb.org), I decided to try building a small application using the Django Form library and Django ORM inside Tornado. The process proved easier than I expected, especially with Russell Keith-Magee being able to provide guidance on demand. GETTING REQUESTCONTEXT IN YOUR TEMPLATES Option #3: Use Generic Views. Django’s generic views include RequestContext by default. Although the docs show them being used in urls.py, you can just as easily use them in your views. James Bennet gave some examples of this technique on his blog back in ’06. It looks something like this: PYTHON & DJANGO WEB DEVELOPMENT EXPERTS Lincoln Loop is a full-service web studio offering user experience and development based on the Django Web Framework. USING SETUP.PY IN YOUR (DJANGO) PROJECT What is setup.py? According to Python's official docs: The setup script is the centre of all activity in building, distributing, and installing modules using the Distutils. The main purpose of the setup script is to describe your module distribution to the Distutils, so that the various commands that operate on your modules do the rightthing.
