Birds unite people. On Saturday, 8 May more than 51,000 people spanning 192 countries celebrated the birds around them for Global Big Day. Together, the global ONE MILLION AUDIO RECORDINGS POWERING SCIENCE On April 26, 2021, Christopher McPherson recorded a Blue-headed Vireo, marking the one millionth audio recording in the Macaulay Library.This incredible milestone was made possible by 20,000 recordists and birdwatchers who have shared their audio recordings of birds, mammals, amphibians, and insects with the Macaulay Library over the past 92years.

THE INTERNET BIRD COLLECTION + THE MACAULAY LIBRARY Led by Josep del Hoyo, who has personally documented more than 5,628 species with his 35,000 videos, the IBC community has captured video of more than 9,200 species, or 85% of all the world’s birds. The Internet Bird Collection now has a new home at the Macaulay Library, where it will be permanently preserved for future generations. ORIENTAL BIRD IMAGES The response to the Oriental Bird Images / Macaulay Library partnership has been incredible, with more than 1,000 OBI contributors choosing to preserve more than 170,000 OBI phots in ML! We are now in the process of migrating OBI photos and data to ML. Look for the OBI collection in ML later in 2021!MICROPHONES

Sennheiser microphones are most commonly used by contributors to Macaulay Library, particularly, the Sennheiser ME series electret condenser shotgun microphones (ME66 short shotgun, ME67 shotgun).
