INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS 2021 Think curves, textures, wall and ceiling detail, metals and neutrals with a pop of colour. Interior design trends in 2021 will focus on the elements that can make a dramatic difference to a home as well as offering a more comfortable space to enjoy. HOW TO CHOOSE WINDOWS Hi Nedra Mid Century modern houses are all about the views and bringing the outside in so windows are very generous and plain. Casement windows work very well for this look rather than a sliding or a double hung style. DOORS FOR A HAMPTONS STYLE It is often the smaller interior design details that will cement the look of a style perfectly. See how to select the right doors for a Hamptons Style here. HOW TO CREATE A CLASSIC WHITE KITCHEN Designers are always writing about trends but it is great to have a design element in the home that is a classic and a white kitchen istruly one of these.
THE RATTAN TREND
Hi Sandra I like to keep rattan pieces to accents in a room. My feeling, without seeing the space, is to just introduce a rattan chair and side table and have a different coffee table so that it doesn’t all look too matched. WHICH PAINT FINISH SHOULD I USE? Which paint finish should I use is a question I am regularly asked. As part of specifying I always advise clients but it isn't always that straight forward and personal choice is important too. OPEN PLAN VS INDIVIDUAL ROOMS When it comes to buying or designing a house, do you prefer open plan spaces or a series of more intimate individual rooms? Both layouts for me have their merits but I think you have to be very careful when opting for a full open plan solution. MY GUIDE TO FRENCH PROVINCIAL STYLE Our recent love affair with the Hamptons has overshadowed some other styles that are also timeless classics. The Hamptons look is absolutely gorgeous and a favourite of mine but it's good to sometimes look around the world and remind ourselves of some of the other enduring decorating styles and consider the home we have and whether it may actually be suited to a different look. WHAT SHOULD YOU PAINT ON THE INSIDE OF YOUR FRONT DOOR I am regularly asked about how you should treat the inside of your front door. I have talked a lot about making an entrance, exterior colours and fun front door colours which is all very grand and exciting but then people panic and feel that this impacts theirinterior scheme.

HOW TO FIND THE RIGHT WHITE How to find the right white paint is more difficult than you may think. You need to understand the undertones and how they can worktogether.

DOORS FOR A HAMPTONS STYLE A Hamptons style loves low sheen or matt finishes. Do not consider painting the doors in any type of gloss finish. Use a good quality low sheen, particularly if you also have wainscoting or VJ paneling. In terms of colour, for a Hamptons style I like to see a slight contrast to the wall colour. I usually specify wall paneling the same colour as HOW TO FIND THE RIGHT WHITE How to choose the right white paint – look for the underlying colour. Bricks are certainly back in fashion and you only need to look at a trendy TV show to see a wall of bricks somewhere in a gorgeous loft apartment or warehouse development. WHAT COLOUR DO I PAINT MY INTERNAL DOORS? What colour do I paint my internal doors is a question that I am frequently asked. I can't give a definitive answer though as it will depend on a number of factors but I do have some ideas to show you here to help you make the right choice for your home. USING SURFMIST AS A TRIM COLOUR The benefits to using Surfmist as a trim colour. If you do have a light wall with a crisp white trim you should consider using a lighter white garage door which some manufacturers will make for you. This is in response to the trend for lighter exteriors. Generally though, I prefer either a little contrast with the garage or a Surfmist door WHY I LOVE A CRISP WHITE TRIM Hi Sally I think you are absolutely on the right track. Just make sure that Dulux Vivid White isn’t too bright for you – Something like Dulux Casper White Quarter is similar but with a touch of grey to stand up to the sun – perhaps paint sample boards and place next to painted weatherboards to get an idea – don’t forget you will have trim on your gutter/fascia too.Skip to content
