In order for the Sheriff's deputies, local law enforcement and communities to stay ahead of criminal activity, the agency is focusing on new technologies to assist in maintaining order in the community, one such technologyis Crime mapping.

The Jr. Cadet has a chairperson and two co-chairpersons with 20 cadets under their supervision.The Explorer Program consists of 25 Explorers which includes two sergeants, two lieutenants, one captain and one major. Intake and Release Process. Individuals who have been placed under arrest are first transported to the Central Jail, which is located at the Main Jail at 14470 Harlee Road, Palmetto. Inmates are allowed three (1 hour) visits per week, but no more than 2 visits per day. Visitors are allowed to visit two inmates per day. Visitors can schedule back to back visits with the same inmate. Failure to properly supervise minor children will be cause for termination of your visit. INMATE PHONE SERVICE Inmate Phone Service. Once an inmate receives his or her housing assignment, he or she can contact family and friends by calling collect from phones in the jail. Marine Unit. The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit was established as a full-time unit in 1987 by then Sheriff Charles B. Wells. The Unit is responsible for approximately 150 miles of coastal shoreline patrol, as well as nearly 9,000 acres of freshwater lakes and ponds. Aviation Unit. The Aviation Unit maintains fixed and rotary wing aircraft for use in attaining goals and objectives relative to surveillance, controlled substance eradication, crime scene management, patrol, and crime prevention. The Aviation Unit provides airborne law enforcement support to all units within the Manatee County Sheriff's Office. FALSE ALARM REDUCTION UNIT The False Alarm Reduction Unit (or FARU, for short) is responsible for enforcing the Manatee County False Alarm Ordinance (Ord. 04-32), a law designed and engineered to reduce false alarms by mandating a balanced schedule of escalating fines designed to both discourage repeated false alarms and help recover the high costs of false alarm SHERIFF RICK WELLS INFO Sheriff Rick Wells .
