PUBLIC MEDIA
‘Public media’ are media institutions that act in the public interest, rather than the interests of politicians and governments, billionaire owners or powerful corporations. In the UK today, public media are the best of public broadcasting, as well as independent media cooperatives and democratically-run community media. Public media are: Independent – able to hold powerful REPORT: WHO OWNS THE UK MEDIA? This new report, published in March 2021, shows that just three companies (News UK, Daily Mail Group and Reach) dominate 90% of the national newspaper market (up from 71% in 2015).When online readers are included, these three companies (News UK, Daily Mail Group, Reach) dominate 80% of the market. The study, written by investigative journalists Brian Cathcart and Paddy French and supported by the BBC PANORAMA ON ANTI-SEMITISM: A CATALOGUE OF REPORTING The BBC transmitted an edition of Panorama on 10 July called ‘Is Labour Anti-Semitic?’, presented by John Ware. It contained allegations that senior Labour figures close to Jeremy Corbyn had interfered with the internal investigations process and that the Party was insufficiently committed to tackling anti-semitism within its own ranks. ‘Public media’ are media institutions that act in the public interest, rather than the interests of politicians and governments, billionaire owners or powerful corporations. In the UK today, public media are the best of public broadcasting, as well as independent media cooperatives and democratically-run community media. This new report, published in March 2021, shows that just three companies (News UK, Daily Mail Group and Reach) dominate 90% of the national newspaper market (up from 71% in 2015).When online readers are included, these three companies (News UK, Daily Mail Group, Reach) dominate 80% of the market.
