Soetsu Yanagi focused on the powerful beauty of Ainu people's creation from early, and held 'Ainu Crafts and Culture Exhibition' in 1941, which was the first Ainu crafts exhibition in a museum. In addition to the Museum's collection, the collection of dyer Keisuke Serizawa who THE BEAUTY OF AINU HANDIWORK Content. Content. Bernard Leach (1887-1979), who supported the Mingei Movement, based on St. Ives, England and engaged in making pottery. Through his visit to Japan as many as 14 times and his creative works, Bernard Leach aimed to become 'a bridge between the East and the West'. INDIGO SHIBORI -THE WORKS OF MOTOHIKO KATANO This exhibition introduces selected works of indigo shibori by Katano such as kimonos, tapestries, and noren curtains. Works by Kaori Katano (1932-2016), daughter of Motohiko who had sincerely supported her father as a dyer throughout her life, are also exhibited.
